West-East Integration Railway Reaches 68% Completion and Promises to Transform Rail Transport in the Country.
If you are a fan of good news about railway development in Brazil, get ready: the largest railway infrastructure project in Brazil is advancing rapidly. The West-East Integration Railway (FIOL), which will have an impressive length of 1,527 km, connects the Port of Ilhéus in Bahia to Figueirópolis in Tocantins and is one of the most ambitious projects in the construction sector in the country.
Update on the Progress of the Railway Infrastructure Work
The railway infrastructure works are divided into two main blocks: lots 1 to 4, under the responsibility of Bahia Mineração (Bamin) since 2021, and lots 5, 6, and 7, led by the public company Infra SA. Currently, the physical progress of FIOL 2, which encompasses a large part of the central section, has already reached 68.31%.

Despite robust advancements in railway infrastructure, the indicator for laid tracks is still at 46.62% of the total. Check the latest numbers:
-

Lot 5: 55.74% of tracks laid, corresponding to 96.44 km on the main line.
Lot 7: 80.84% of tracks laid, equivalent to 146.8 km.
Lot 6: still awaiting the start of work for track installation.
While Lot 6 is being planned for bidding and new services, the remaining parts of lots 5 and 7 are also being adjusted for continuation.
Transformation for the Future
With total completion expected in the coming years, the railway infrastructure work in Brazil promises to boost not only cargo transport but also open new doors for economic development in the regions crossed by the railway. The construction, which already employs thousands of workers and mobilizes various sectors, symbolizes a milestone in strengthening the Brazilian railway network.
Whether for export through the Port of Ilhéus or for national distribution, FIOL is more than just a project; it is a strategic step towards a more connected and efficient Brazil.
