Teen Rescues Destroyed Tesla and Discovers Surprising Data Stored in the Vehicle’s Computer; Restoration Adventure Becomes a Mystery and Revelation
Recently, an 18-year-old American teenager named Winston fulfilled his dream of owning a Tesla Model 3. However, the vehicle did not come to him in a conventional way. Winston bought a 2018 model that had been completely destroyed in an accident for just 15 thousand dollars (about R$ 75 thousand) at a auction.
Driven by his passion for the billionaire brand Elon Musk, he decided to restore the car himself, investing his time and savings into this challenging project.

Winston’s Journey with the Tesla Model 3
Winston had been fascinated by Tesla for years, regularly watching Rich Rebuilds’ YouTube channel, an influencer known for restoring the brand’s vehicles.

Motivated by these videos, the young man joined various online forums and communities about Tesla repairs and began to research the subject diligently.
At the same time, he started working at Chick-Fil-A to save the necessary money for the car and its replacement parts.
After saving for a year, Winston decided it was time to look for a damaged Tesla he could restore. After months of searching auction sites, he finally found the destroyed Model 3, which seemed ideal for his undertaking.
The car had serious structural damage, including deployed airbags and a damaged motor compartment, but this did not intimidate the young enthusiast.

Restoration and Surprising Discovery
The restoration process took about three months, during which Winston had to buy various parts and learn how each component of the Tesla worked. After intense and detailed work, he managed to make the Model 3 almost like new.
However, the real surprise came when he plugged a USB flash drive into the car’s system to try to access data from the embedded computer.
Upon accessing the data, Winston found images from the Tesla’s embedded camera showing the accident that destroyed the car. The captured images revealed that the vehicle was involved in a violent side collision (or T-bone).
The recording showed that the former owner was driving calmly when suddenly a car appeared from the left and collided with the Tesla, leaving no chance to brake.
This discovery gave Winston insight into what the car had gone through, as well as providing a unique context for the project he had undertaken.

Total Costs of the Tesla Model 3 Project
The restoration cost about 9 thousand dollars for parts, plus 1 thousand dollars for fees, raising the total investment to approximately 25 thousand dollars (about R$ 125 thousand).
In comparison, the price of a used Tesla Model 3, without damage, ranges from 26 thousand to 41 thousand dollars, making Winston’s project a smart investment considering the condition of the car after the repair.
Cost Summary:
- Purchase of the destroyed Tesla Model 3 (2018): US$ 15 thousand
- Replacement parts: US$ 9 thousand
- Taxes and fees: US$ 1 thousand
- Total: US$ 25 thousand
Despite the challenges, Winston managed to achieve his dream of owning a Tesla, transforming a destroyed vehicle into a functional and stylish car. This experience served as a great lesson for the young man, who now has not only a dream car but also a story of overcoming and learning.
