About a year later, these drawings began to be transformed into real products. This is how Are You Kidding? Socks was born, a brand created by the brothers with Sebastian as the creator of the models and Brandon leading the commercial part.

The division of roles became one of the pillars of the company’s growth. Scholastic Math described Sebastian as the CEO of the brand and Brandon as responsible for sales, while the two share tasks related to pattern creation, promotion, and catalog expansion.

In 2021, Scholastic Math reported an even greater leap. According to the publication, the company had already sold over 500,000 pairs of socks, consolidating Are You Kidding? as one of the best-known cases of youth entrepreneurship linked to creative retail in the United States.

Are You Kidding? Socks raised money for childhood cancer, diabetes, and other causes

From the beginning, the brothers decided that the business would not be limited to selling socks. The proposal began to include charitable campaigns and partnerships with social organizations, turning each new collection into an opportunity to raise funds for causes related to health and child care.

Lifestyle Media Group reported that by 2020, the company had already helped raise about US$ 200,000 for entities that support children in vulnerable situations. Among the organizations mentioned are JDRF, Autism Speaks, Make-A-Wish, American Cancer Society, and Live Like Bella Foundation.

Later, the numbers continued to advance. In 2021, Scholastic Math reported that the brand had already surpassed US$ 350,000 raised for childhood cancer treatments, diabetes research, and other charitable initiatives.

Are You Kidding Cares expanded sock donations and social actions

The social action of the brothers was not limited to financial fundraising. The company created the philanthropic arm Are You Kidding Cares, used to donate socks and support campaigns aimed at children and families in delicate situations.

The report by Lifestyle Media Group states that since 2014, this charitable division had already donated socks to children in homelessness, youth in foster care, and people affected by natural disasters. This solidarity component helped differentiate the brand and expanded the public reach of the brothers’ story.

Meanwhile, iHeartMedia stated, in a release about the brothers’ podcast, that the brand also used specific campaigns to raise funds and awareness for charitable institutions. The text emphasizes that the business combined commercial operation with a structured and permanent social front.

Podcast with iHeartRadio brought the brothers’ story to an even larger audience

The growth of Are You Kidding? Socks opened up space for new projects beyond sales. In 2019, the brothers launched the Are You Kidding Podcast, presented as the first iHeartRadio podcast hosted by children.

In the official announcement, iHeartMedia stated that the program was produced in partnership with Enrique Santos and created to inspire other children to help the community through their own ideas. The project also featured guests like John Leguizamo, Bobby Bones, and Elvis Duran.

The initiative increased the brand’s visibility and reinforced the brothers’ positioning as young entrepreneurs with social appeal. Instead of using the company solely as a business, they began to treat it also as a platform of inspiration for other young people.

Child entrepreneurship and social impact turned the story into a reference in the United States

The journey of Sebastian and Brandon Martinez stood out because it brought together three rare elements in the same story: child creativity, commercial execution, and a real commitment to charitable causes.
