This New Pioneering Project in Bahia Is Being Implemented at the Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport and Will Feature 11,000 Solar Panels

Bahia, January 2, 2020 – The Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães Airport in Salvador is installing a 4.2 MWp solar panel at the runway threshold to generate electricity for the terminal. The project involves an investment of around BRL 16 million (US $ 4 million / EUR 3.6 million) and will cover over 30% of the terminal’s energy needs, as well as reduce the airport’s carbon footprint by nearly one third.

Salvador’s international airport in the state of Bahia will be powered by 11,000 solar panels capable of producing 6,300 MWh per year. The new solar panel will cover an area of 30,000 square meters (322,917 square feet).

The system is expected to start operating in the second half of February, the airport reported in a statement this week.

The Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport in Salvador Bahia is operated under concession by Vinci Airports SAS of the French group Vinci SA (EPA: DG).
