The Inaugural Flight of the S-92, Offshore Helicopter by Leader Air Taxi, is a Milestone in the Operations of the Airport of Maricá.
The Airport of Maricá, under the management of the Maricá Development Company (Codemar), inaugurated its operations with the imposing S-92 helicopter, standing out as the largest in the offshore category. This aircraft is the pioneer of a fleet of five helicopters of the same model, owned by Leader Air Taxi, a company that already operates the AW-139. The inaugural flight departed from Leader’s base at the Airport of Maricá heading to the Santos Basin, marking a historical event in airport operations.
Inauguration Marks the Beginning of Operations with Large Capacity Aircraft in the Santos Basin
Marta Magge, Operations Director of Codemar, emphasizes that this event represents not only an operational advance but also a significant boost in the airport’s revenue.
Furthermore, the certification of the load capacity of the yards not only expands opportunities for direct and indirect employment.

It also strengthens the position of the S-92 as the globally preferred aircraft for offshore oil exploration activities.
With a capacity of up to 19 passengers, the S-92 helicopter surpasses the current AW-139 model, which accommodates 12 passengers, resulting in a substantial increase in transport capacity at the terminal.
Expansion of the Airport of Maricá Boosts Offshore Sector
Isaac Nascimento, Operations Superintendent of Codemar, highlights that the development of the Airport of Maricá is the result of continuous work that began in 2016.
The consolidation as an offshore base gained momentum with the arrival of the first four aircraft from Omni Air Taxi last year, and one from Leader Air Taxi this year, serving the Santos Basin.
He points out the importance of these aircraft for the Búzios Field, consolidating Petrobras’s presence at the Airport of Maricá.
Expansion of Facilities to Meet Growing Demand
The construction of yard 3, which will have 14 parking positions for large aircraft, is underway, with an expected completion in early 2024, along with the new Aircraft Refueling Station.
Additionally, the Airport of Maricá plans to construct yard 4 and new hangars by the second half of 2024, to keep up with the growing demand and provide an even more robust infrastructure for its operations.
