The use of drones in Alcoa's mining plants is growing more and more and, with that, the company is starting to invest even more in the use of technology to make production more efficient, with good results in monitoring mineral exploration

Adhering more and more to the new innovation solutions within the productive processes in mining, the company Alcoa expands the use of drones in its plants and begins to verify the benefits of the technology. Thus, the company commented on Thursday, (26/05), on the positive points of using technology to monitor production, aiming at greater control of the entire chain of exploitation of ores

Company Alcoa advances in the use of drones to monitor production in its mining plants and takes advantage of technology benefits in mineral exploration

Drones are equipment developed around the 1980s with a focus on military use, but they have become popular over the decades and, today, they have several uses ranging from industrial use to entertainment. Thus, several companies began to use this technology to expand the possibilities of monitoring the production chain in different segments, but mainly within the branch of mineral exploration in the national territory.

And, among the companies that have joined the use of drones in mining, the company Alcoa is one of the biggest references throughout Brazil, as it has been expanding even further the use of technology in its production. Alcoa's main mineral exploration plant that currently benefits from this equipment is in Juruti, located in the state of Pará.

The project to use drones on site started in 2019 and, little by little, the company was able to greatly expand the use of this technology to monitor the mineral exploration chain. Alcoa stated that it started using it only in the production of bauxite on site, but that this was just the gateway to new uses of the technology in mining.

That's because, currently, the company expanded the use of drones and they are part of the entire mineral production process, assisting in the work routine by monitoring vegetation suppression, tailings ponds, recovered areas, mine infrastructure and inspection of plator edges . As a result, the company has become a national reference by adopting this technology in all of its mineral exploration in Brazil.

Digital transformation and adherence to technology are pillars of the company and the use of drones in production is just one of the steps towards innovation in mining

The mining company Alcoa reinforces that the search for new innovations with technology within the mining segment is the main pillar of the company's growth today. This is because the use of drones has proven the importance of automated and digitized processes to ensure more efficiency in production, as the company achieves more efficient and long-distance monitoring of its production chain in a simpler and more practical way.

In this way, Marco Martini, Digital Regional Manager, commented on the use of technology and the importance of drones within the company's mining and also stated that "The use of drones in our operations has become constant and I believe that, soon, we will have more opportunities to leverage this technology, mitigating risks and increasing our productivity”.

Finally, the president of Alcoa Brasil, Otávio Carvalheira, highlighted the digital transformation as a gateway to new paths in search of responsible and very efficient growth, in addition to highlighting how drones were important for expanding production and the interest of the company in seeking even more solutions for the future.
