Discover How Natural Gas Storage in France Can Transform the Brazilian Market
The institutional mission of the ANP in France reveals advanced practices in natural gas storage, efficient regulatory models, and the positive impacts that these initiatives can bring to the energy infrastructure of Brazil.
ANP and the Search for Solutions for Brazilian Natural Gas
Between December 2 and 6, 2023, the ANP, with the support of the Embassy of Brazil in France, led a mission with the clear objective of exploring and adapting natural gas storage practices. Thus, the focus was to align the findings with the New Gas Law and ensure applicability in the national market.
International Partnerships as a Driver of Innovation
An important milestone of this mission was the memorandum signed with the CRE in July 2023, which allowed for a knowledge exchange that is now decisive. France, with 14 storage facilities and 70 years of experience, demonstrated how well-structured practices ensure balance and economic efficiency.

Brazil has never generated so much clean energy — and has never charged so much for it: while solar and wind farms break records, the electricity bill rises by up to 23% and R$ 52 billion in charges are paid by 35 million families who don’t understand why electricity has become so expensive.

The Impacts of the New Gas Law on the Storage Sector
The New Gas Law, enacted in 2021, already regulates storage, but with the French experience, it is clear that adjustments are still needed. Therefore, the ANP seeks to increase private sector participation and maximize the efficiency of the entire Brazilian natural gas market.
Energy Security as a Priority in the Brazilian Market
Energy security is fundamental, and storage is a key piece in this context. By integrating strategic stocks into the production chain, Brazil can achieve greater stability and competitiveness, ensuring lasting benefits for society as a whole.
