According to reports, the crew members boarding this ship had been quarantining in Recife, Pernambuco. The boarding was scheduled through Salvador, and the employees had to travel to Bahia by chartered bus. It was at that moment that the “alleged contamination” occurred.

Another point reported is that contracted service providers are boarding the ships without undergoing tests and without fulfilling quarantine, increasing the risk of COVID-19 transmission among the offshore workers.

Note from Transpetro

“Transpetro informs that a COVID case was confirmed aboard the Rômulo Almeida Ship on 11/09/2020. Immediately, the company reinforced distancing and prevention guidelines onboard and notified the Health Surveillance of Salvador. All crew members are being monitored by Transpetro’s Remote Health Service and have undergone the RT-PCR test. Confirmed cases were isolated, according to the Health Ministry’s Protocol.

The ship’s facilities are being sanitized daily by the crew and will undergo additional cleaning after disembarkation of the crew.
Transpetro reiterates its commitment to the health and safety of its employees and has been implementing robust procedures across all its units since the pandemic began, always acting diligently. Prevention measures against transmission include a pre-boarding quarantine period with health monitoring for all mariners, health evaluations, and RT-PCR tests prior to boarding and, onboard, mandatory mask usage, distancing between individuals, and enhanced cleaning and other preventive measures.”
