This Week, Volkswagen Announced That It Will No Longer Produce Cars for Its Gol Line and Launches a Final Edition That Honors the Others
Volkswagen will cease production of cars from the Gol line after 42 years of history. As a farewell, the brand launched a model that pays tribute to the most famous cars it has ever manufactured for the Gol. Its Last Edition will have only 1,000 units and even honors the orbital wheel.
The Volkswagen Gol is the best-selling car in Brazil, with over 8 million units produced, and was the sales leader for 27 years. The 1,000 units of its final edition have already begun to be distributed to dealerships, and the brand claims it will not make a larger run, as it did with the Kombi Last Edition in 2013.
What Are the Main Models Honored and How Will the Volkswagen Gol Last Edition Bring This Nostalgia?
Volkswagen did not attempt to reproduce the same performance as the Gol GT, GTS, and GTi but activates the memory of its fans with visual elements. The black stripe painted on the rear connecting the taillights originated with the Gol GT in 1984, just as the Recaro seats inspired the gray fabric that covers the seats.

Peugeot publicly acknowledged the errors of the PureTech engine, which caused serious failures in hundreds of thousands of cars, and introduced the new Turbo 100 as a definitive solution, a 1.2 turbo tested for over 3 million kilometers that replaces the faulty belt with a more durable chain.

Without relying on an outlet, without a cable, and without the gasoline engine driving the wheels: Nissan created the Note e-POWER, a hatchback that always runs on an electric motor while a combustion engine works only as a generator, delivering to Japan a type of “electric without recharging” that Brazil is almost unfamiliar with.
The famous orbital wheel appeared on the Gol GTi in the early 90s. This wheel is not present on the Gol Last Edition but appears in the logos that mark the C pillar. The Gol G2, better known as “Gol Bolinha,” is honored by the font in which “Gol” is written on the trunk lid.
Volkswagen Does Not Specify Engine Details for the Gol Last Edition
Volkswagen has not provided much technical information about the car. Still, it is likely to maintain the 1.0 MPI flex engine with 3 cylinders and 12 valves, generating 77 hp of power and 9.6 mkgf of torque with gasoline. With the use of ethanol, the figures rise to 84 hp and 10.4 mkgf. The engine works in conjunction with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Its equipment list is on par with the Gol Urban Complete. It includes air conditioning, power steering, mirrors with electric adjustment, turn signal lights, and tilt-down on the right side, onboard computer, rear parking sensor, and a 6.5” Composition Touch multimedia center with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The price of this last edition has not yet been disclosed.
