The Day That Many 4×4 Jeep Fans Feared Has Arrived: With Ford’s Exit from the Country, Troller Production Has Ceased, and the Search for the Last Units in Brazil Has Skyrocketed.
For the disappointment of brand lovers, there are no more Troller T4 or TX4 in production in Brazil. The factory in Horizonte (CE), previously managed by multinational Ford, which left Brazil in January of this year, ceased production of the model at the end of September. The factory has not yet closed, as it will continue operating until, initially, November. The intention is to build a stock of replacement parts. But there is already movement at the dealerships.

On its website, Troller states that it will not close dealerships at this first moment. “The Troller Dealership Network will not undergo any changes and will continue to operate normally in Brazil. Future changes will be communicated in advance, with total transparency.”
The model shown in the cover image is the TX4, automatic version of the T4. The unit is for sale at a dealership in Rio Grande do Norte, in Natal, which claims to have received the last model from the factory. The price? Nothing less than R$ 299 thousand, according to pictures taken of the label accompanying the vehicle.

Indeed, it’s a high price considering that, at other stores that still have the model in stock, the price is R$ 280 thousand. However, according to speculation, the higher price would be justified as it is the last model in the line. In the posted image, it is possible to see factory employees next to the version with blue and white paint.
Jeep Without Substitutes
There are no substitutes at the level of Troller. The combination of a short chassis, with a diesel engine and 4×4 traction with low range is not found in any other model sold in Brazil. The fiberglass body, which does not dent or rust, stands out as well.
All second-generation Troller T4 and TX4s were equipped with a five-cylinder 3.2 engine with 200 hp and have 4×4 traction with low range. What changes is the transmission, which can be manual or automatic, both with six gears. They are the same components as the Ford Ranger.
The off-road vocation has always stood out in Trollers, whether in the first or second generation. And this served as an argument for none of them to be equipped with airbags, only with ABS.
Troller Was Purchased by Ford for R$ 400 Million in 2007
Troller was purchased by Ford for R$ 400 million in 2007. Founded in 1995 by businessman Rogério Farias, the brand was born as Troler, with only one L, and aimed to be a nationally relevant brand in the 4×4 jeep market, with a special focus on producing vehicles for expeditions and rally competitions.
The name comes from the English “troll,” which can be translated as provoker, goblin, or supernatural being. The idea was to name a fearless vehicle, a pioneer capable of performing tricks on trails through the nooks of Brazil.
The company’s factory has always been in Horizonte (CE), but the operation was soon sold, in 1997, to Mário Araripe, a local investor in the textile and construction sectors. At the time, the jipinho was still in development and had had 44 pre-production prototypes produced, all for experimental use in rally events.
