Enrollment opened at the beginning of November and will remain open until all spots are filled.
This initiative aims to serve both those interested in enhancing their communicative skills and professionals who interact with the deaf public, expanding accessibility in various areas.
Online Modality and Workload
The course, which takes place entirely online, offers 40 hours of learning, of which 30 hours are live classes conducted via Zoom, while the remaining 10 hours are dedicated to complementary activities and content reinforcement.
The classes will be divided into 16 different groups, with schedule options on various days: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; Tuesdays and Thursdays; and Saturdays, allowing flexibility for those with other commitments.
To participate, you need internet access and a camera to attend the live classes, as interaction and practice are essential for learning.
At the end of the course, participants who achieve a minimum attendance of 75% in live classes and a final average of at least 5.0 will receive a certificate of completion.
Themes Addressed in the Course
The course themes cover a wide range of essential topics for those starting in the world of Libras. Students will encounter subjects such as:
- Introduction to Libras and its importance;
- Identity and deaf culture;
- Differences in communication between deaf and hearing individuals;
- Regionalisms and variations in Libras;
- Manual alphabet and personal signs;
- Expressions of greeting and weather conditions;
- Basic vocabulary about time, numbers, and feelings;
- Concepts of family, professions, documents, and facial expressions;
- Verbs and hand configurations used in the language.
This set of themes ensures that students have a basic and practical understanding of Libras, facilitating a more inclusive and respectful communication.
Classes with Deaf Teachers
One of the highlights of the course is that classes are conducted by deaf teachers, providing a more authentic experience of deaf culture and an opportunity to learn directly from those who use Libras as their primary language.
This interaction allows students to practice directly with those immersed in the language, making the learning process more dynamic and engaging.
The Importance of Libras for Inclusion
According to official data, the state of São Paulo is home to over 590,000 deaf individuals, and knowledge of Libras becomes increasingly necessary in a context of inclusion.
By learning Libras, hearing individuals expand their communication possibilities and create a more accessible environment, whether at work, in daily life, or in educational settings.
According to SEDPcD, this initiative aims not only to expand knowledge about sign language but also to strengthen a society that values diversity.
