Partnership between Italy, the United Kingdom and Japan could gain Saudi support in the GCAP fighter project.
Saudi Arabia may be the newest member of the GCAP fighter project, a partnership between Italy, the United Kingdom and Japan to develop an advanced next-generation fighter jet. The information was confirmed this Wednesday (29) by the Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani.
“The agreement we have with the UK and Japan… I believe it will now be expanded to include Saudi Arabia,” Tajani said during a news conference. The statement comes after recent meetings between leaders of those countries, including a conversation in Brazil between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Japanese counterpart, Shigeru Ishiba, and British counterpart, Keir Starmer.
Global Air Combat Program
The GCAP (Global Combat Air Program) fighter project was made official in December 2022 and represents one of the largest collaborations in the global defense industry. It unites the efforts of the three nations to create a next-generation combat aircraft, which should be ready to fly in the next decade.
