The Solidarity Plane Program, run by LATAM Group in partnership with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), has initiated the international and domestic transport of over 6 tons of donations intended for people who had to leave their homes in search of safety and protection.
In this initiative, 48 modular houses will come from the UNHCR regional office in Panama, heading to Brasília and Boa Vista. The program, recognized for providing humanitarian aid, will also bring various items such as clothing, bags, diapers, personal items, hygiene products, among others, which will be delivered to 17 partner institutions of the Agency in five Brazilian states – São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul.
In April 2022, a partnership between the agency and the UN enabled activities of this kind, meaning that the transport aims at these long-term social actions. In practice, the agreement provides for the free transport of cargo, in addition to contributing to airline tickets for destinations within LATAM’s flight network.
Thus, the transportation of the items is part of the Solidarity Plane program, which, through various alliances, aims to create value in society by offering free transport to meet various types of needs in diverse locations.

Offshore air transport soars in Brazil, surpasses 2.5 million passengers, and reveals how oil has transformed Rio’s airports into key pieces of national logistics.
In a note, the Livelihoods Officer of UNHCR Brazil, Paulo Sérgio Almeida, stated that “The partnership between UNHCR and LATAM reinforces the need to provide safe means of transportation to meet the emergency needs and local integration of refugees who had to flee their homes due to persecution, violence, and violations of human rights. Through donations and the provision of tickets, we are providing dignity as a measure of welcoming this population in Brazil.”
Therefore, it is expected that the Solidarity Plane will bring new perspectives to various citizens who have had their homes destroyed or lost.
LATAM Has the Largest Market Share in Brazil
On the last 6th, data from ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency) indicated that LATAM again secured the largest share of the Brazilian market. The analysis is based on RPK, which means the average number of paying passengers multiplied by kilometers flown on the company’s domestic and international flights.
Thus, LATAM remains the leader in the Brazilian market for 10 consecutive months. According to the data, the airline’s share was 38.5% in the domestic segment and 17% in the international segment.
In 2022, about 30 million passengers were transported on LATAM’s domestic and international flights in the country. This means that the volume of flights is at the same level as in 2019, before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Currently, LATAM connects 54 Brazilian airports, marking the largest number of domestic destinations in the company’s history in the country. In addition to domestic flights, the airline also focuses on social campaigns, such as the Solidarity Plane program, for example.
In the international market, LATAM continues to be the airline with the most direct destinations in Brazil, with 21 locations. Thus, the company has already announced new operations in Johannesburg and Los Angeles to expand its international flight operations.
