The Brazilian Aviation Company, Azul Airlines, Made It to the OAG List, the World Leading Data Platform for the Travel Industry, Which Revealed the Most Punctual Airlines and Airports in the World as Part of Its 2023 Punctuality Alliance.
Among the data released, Japan tops the list of the 20 largest airlines in the world, with All Nippon Airways leading with an On-Time Performance (OTP) of 88.79%, followed by Japan Airlines (#2; OTP 88.07%).
Here in Brazil, LATAM Airlines (OTP 85.03%) ranks 3rd among LATAM airlines, while Azul Airlines (OTP 84.87%) ranks 4th.
Azul Airlines Is Ahead of American Companies
Azul Airlines managed to stay ahead of five US airlines that made it to the list of the top 10, with Delta Air Lines (OTP 81.79%) in sixth place.

Five European airlines are among the 20 largest airlines, including KLM in 11th place (OTP 73.06%). Among the top 20 low-cost carriers (LCCs) in the world, the German Eurowings (OTP 95.26%) took first place, followed by Thai AirAsia (#2; OTP 92.33%) and Jeju Air (#3; OTP 91.84%). Viva Air Colombia (OTP 81.63%) ranks 7th among Latin American airlines and Southwest Airlines (OTP 71.61%) ranks 14th among airlines in the United States.
Airports Were Also Mentioned in the Research
Among the 20 largest airports in the world, Tokyo Haneda occupies first place with an OTP of 88.06%. In North America, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (OTP 80.08%) ranked second, and Mexico City International Airport (OTP 72.73%) ranked 12th. This year’s OTP at the largest airport in Europe was affected by operational resource issues in the summer.
“Global punctuality performance is reaching levels not seen since before the pandemic, as operators work to relieve operational pressures and delays,” said John Grant, chief analyst at OAG. “Confidence in the recovery of travel is growing, with airlines placing new aircraft orders, new routes being announced, and labor challenges seemingly easing.”

Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras is a Brazilian airline, founded and certified by David Neeleman in 2008, and in 2014 it was recognized as the third largest airline in Brazil in terms of passengers, the second largest fleet offered by the major airlines, and the largest number of destinations (106), operating at 98 airports in Brazil and 8 international airports.
In 2016, Azul had a market share of 17.19% of the total seats on domestic flights and 9.22% on international flights, becoming the fastest-growing company in terms of passengers per kilometer flown.
