Data Are from the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE) and Indicate Bahia’s Leadership in Wind Energy Generation in the Country
The good winds continue to blow in favor of wind energy production in the country. According to data from the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE), the state of Bahia has taken the lead in wind energy production in the country. Considering the first half of the year, average production in the state was 1,611 MW, marking a 59% increase compared to the same period in 2018, when generation was 1,013 MW on average.
In second place was Rio Grande do Norte, with 1,124 MW on average, and in third was the state of Piauí, significantly lower with less than half, at 544 MW on average.

In terms of installed capacity ranking, the leadership also belongs to Bahia, with 3,980 MW; in second place comes the state of Rio Grande do Norte, with 3,936 MW.
Third is Ceará with 2,349 MW, followed by Rio Grande do Sul with 1,778 MW and Piauí with 1,638 MW.
Regarding the growth of wind energy generation, the state of Maranhão stood out in the CCEE report, as it also showed growth in its production, achieving a 29.8% increase.
Other states that stood out in growth included Piauí, which registered a 5.2% increase, and Rio Grande do Norte with 1.3%.
The state of Santa Catarina, despite ranking ninth among producers, appeared prominently in the report with a growth of 67.9% compared to the first half of last year.
Wind energy did not only grow in Bahia; in Brazil, it also grew by 15.5% in the first half of 2019 compared to the same period in 2018, thanks to 595 wind farms operating in the country at the end of June 2019, totaling 15,058 MW of installed capacity.
The increase was 14.2% compared to the 13,181 MW capacity in June 2018, when there were 518 generating units in the country.
