New Honda Company with Japanese Giant Focuses on Mass Production of Batteries for Electric Cars
The strategic partnership between Honda and GS Yuasa centers on the research and development of lithium-ion batteries, along with the implementation of highly competitive global production methods. However, the long-term goal is clear: mass production of batteries for the electric vehicle revolution.
The new company will be committed to establishing a solid supply chain to ensure access to essential raw materials, as well as developing a highly efficient production system for its electric vehicle batteries.
GS Yuasa, known as one of the leading Japanese battery manufacturers, is prepared to tackle lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles with greater series production. The company already has experience in batteries for electric vehicles, having participated in joint ventures such as Lithium Energy Japan, supporting Mitsubishi’s plug-in hybrid vehicles, and Blue Energy, for Honda’s hybrids. Now, the question remains what type of chemistry and battery cell will be selected for the new electric vehicles, as well as exploring new solutions, such as cell-to-cell or auxiliary battery packs, that may meet market demands.
