On BR-470, the duplication of BR-470 between Navegantes and Indaial still leaves the Itajaí Valley with sections without a dual lane and critical art works delayed in all lots.

The BR-470, long pointed out as the most congested BR in the Itajaí Valley, enters 2026 with a significant portion of the duplication completed, but still with 15.7 km on a single lane and several delayed art works between Navegantes and Indaial. The official scenario mentions completion this year, however the detailed map of stretches, viaducts, and pending accesses shows a much tighter situation than the discourse suggests.

Based on the kilometer-by-kilometer survey conducted by engineer Lourival Luciano Lourens, who travels the entire initial stretch of BR-470 from km 0 to km 73, it is clear that none of the four lots were fully delivered in 2025 and that, in 2026, it will still be necessary to release lanes, finish viaducts, and construct accesses that haven’t even begun. The result is a partially duplicated highway, but still full of bottlenecks that keep daily queues on BR-470.

BR-470 in 2026: What Is Already Ready in the Initial 73 km

On BR-470, the duplication of BR-470 still leaves the Itajaí Valley with sections without a dual lane and critical art works delayed, we explain what is missing.

The ongoing duplication on BR-470 goes from km 0 in Navegantes to km 73 in Indaial, divided into four consecutive lots. In practice, the current situation is as follows:

  • 57.3 km are already on dual lane
  • 15.7 km still remain on a single lane, distributed among small critical stretches
  • All four lots of BR-470 continue with active construction fronts

These 15.7 km that are pending are not just “loose asphalt.” In several locations, the duplication depends on complex art works, such as viaducts, underpasses and marginal accesses, which require more time, budget, and traffic coordination. This is precisely where the doubt about the total delivery of the duplication of BR-470 in 2026 lies.

Lot 1 on BR-470: Almost Fully Duplicated, But Still a Bottleneck in Navegantes

The Lot 1 of BR-470 starts at km 0 in Navegantes and goes to the region of km 18, at the border with Ilhota. In this stretch, the situation is relatively comfortable compared to the others:

  • From km 0 to km 18, almost the entire BR-470 already operates on a dual lane
  • The exception is the area around km 3.8, where there is still ongoing construction
  • This point concentrates about 1 km of single lane that still needs to be released

The engineer recalls that he once believed in the total completion of Lot 1 in 2025. This did not happen. In 2026, the expectation is for completion, but the fact is that BR-470 still enters the year with a bottleneck right at the start of the highway, precisely in a high traffic area between Navegantes and Ilhota.

Lot 2 on BR-470: Gaspar with 1.5 km of Single Lane and Access at km 40 Pending

Leaving Lot 1, BR-470 continues to Lot 2, which encompasses the region of Gaspar, up to approximately km 35. Between km 3.8 and km 35, the situation of the lanes is positive:

  • The entire stretch between km 3.8 and km 35 is already duplicated
  • The problem lies in the construction points that still keep traffic on a single lane and detours

Currently, Lot 2 presents two main pending issues:

  • At km 35, there is about 1.5 km of single lane, due to the structure that is still being finalized
  • At km 40, the access ramp is also still under construction, with no completion yet

According to the report, these points were once considered for delivery in 2025, which did not materialize. Now, they appear as promises for early 2026. Meanwhile, BR-470 continues with detours and narrowing in Gaspar, keeping heavy traffic in a state of permanent construction.

Lot 3 on BR-470: Badenfurt Advanced, But 4.2 km and Two Viaducts Block Progress

The Lot 3 of BR-470 starts at km 45, over the Belchior River bridge, and goes to the region of km 58, near the bridges over the Texto River, in Badenfurt. It is one of the lots with the most visible advances for the user:

  • In 2025, the access of Badenfurt on dual lane was released, expanding about 2 km
  • The km 45, 46 and 47 on dual lane were also released, adding another 2 important km

Even so, Lot 3 still has a critical stretch that weighs on the account of BR-470:

  • Between km 52 and 56, there are still approximately 4.2 km on a single lane, in the heart of Blumenau
  • Within these 4.2 km, there are two crucial art works
    • The linking structure of Ari Barroso Street under BR-470, with viaducts already in progress near km 52
    • The group of works planned for the Trevo do Celeiro do Vale, in the region of km 54, where construction has still not started

In summary, Lot 3 is more advanced than Lot 4, but holds two engineering bottlenecks that need to get off the ground or advance very quickly for BR-470 to reach the end of 2026 with the duplication truly completed in this stretch.

Lot 4 on BR-470: The Most Delayed Section Between Blumenau and Indaial

The Lot 4 of BR-470 is the most sensitive of all, both in terms of length and delay. It starts around km 58, in the Badenfurt region, and goes to km 73, in Indaial.

The current situation is divided as follows:

  • From km 67 to km 73, BR-470 already operates on a dual lane, with several important viaducts completed
    • Carijós Viaduct
    • Access Viaduct to João Paulo I
    • Estradinha Viaduct
  • Even in this duplicated section, there are still marginals to be built, adjusted or improved

The biggest issue is between km 58 and 67 of BR-470, where:

  • There is no section of dual lane released
  • There are partially paved segments, but still without full operation on dual lane
  • Approximately 9 km remain pending for effective duplication

Additionally, Lot 4 concentrates a series of delayed art works or those yet to be initiated:

  • Albany region, around km 64
    • Structure practically ready, estimated at about 90% completion
    • The expectation is for release in the early months of 2026
  • Region near km 60, still in Blumenau
    • Viaduct and overpass structure planned, but no construction has started
  • Access to Palotina Street, at km 63, already in Indaial
    • A roundabout and underpass structure are planned under BR-470
    • Structure still at zero, only projected

Therefore, the engineer clearly classifies: Lot 4 is currently the most delayed of BR-470, with more mileage on a single lane, more construction fronts ahead, and more uncertainty about deadlines.

57.3 km Ready and 15.7 km Stalled: Where the Duplication of BR-470 Still Stalls

When adding everything that is still missing, the map of BR-470 between Navegantes and Indaial looks like this:

  • Lot 1
    • About 1 km on a single lane in the area of km 3.8 in Navegantes
  • Lot 2
    • Approximately 1.5 km on a single lane in the area of km 35 in Gaspar
    • Access at km 40 still in finalization
  • Lot 3
    • 4.2 km of single lane between km 52 and 56, in Blumenau
    • Two major art works: link of Ari Barroso Street and Trevo do Celeiro do Vale
  • Lot 4
    • About 9 km between km 58 and 67 still to be duplicated
    • Works in Albany, viaduct in Badenfurt, and access to Palotina Street at different stages, some still without effective initiation

In total, we arrive at 15.7 km that are needed to complete the duplication of BR-470 in the 73 km stretch, against 57.3 km already duplicated.

The numbers may seem modest, but the type of work involved shows another side: they are not just “asphalt shortages,” but sections full of urban interferences, local accesses, and complex viaducts, that require time, resources, and good management.

Is the Delivery of BR-470 in 2026 Possible, but Is It Really Probable?

From a technical standpoint, the engineer overseeing the duplication of BR-470 does not rule out the possibility of completion in 2026, but makes it clear that he does not believe in this deadline with the current scenario of delayed art works and sections still at zero.

For the promise to be fulfilled, it would be necessary to:

  • Speed up construction fronts in Lots 3 and 4
  • Ensure continuous and sufficient funds to avoid contract interruptions
  • Well coordinate the art work schedule with temporary lane releases
  • Work with multiple teams in parallel to kickstart the points not yet initiated

Meanwhile, those who depend on BR-470 continue facing queues, detours, narrow stretches, and ongoing works in all four lots. The duplication has changed daily life in some areas, such as Badenfurt and Indaial, but it is still far from providing the fluidity expected from a fully duplicated highway.
