Brazil Has Unique Opportunity to Attract Industries and Reindustrialize with Clean Energy
Brazil has the ‘opportunity of the century’ to reindustrialize through clean energy, according to Lucas Araripe, executive director of Casa dos Ventos.
The company sees the potential to attract energy-intensive industries such as aluminum, steel, fertilizers, and data centers to the country, due to these companies’ need to meet decarbonization targets.
Currently, more than 80% of Brazil’s energy matrix comes from renewable sources, such as solar power plants and wind farms.

Advancement in renewable energy: A R$ 150 million project launched by Petrobras and Finep aims to create state-of-the-art electrolyzers for green hydrogen, strengthening national research and preparing Brazil to compete in a billion-dollar energy market.

Illiterate or semi-literate grandmothers were trained to repair solar systems, open rural workshops, and light up homes that still depended on kerosene.
-
The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Africa has about 500,000 cell towers and most still burn diesel to operate, while companies rush to cover antennas with solar energy and avoid signal blackouts.
Casa dos Ventos has mapped over 1,200 points across Brazil to identify areas with favorable winds for the installation of wind farms.
The company has projects in both wind and solar energy, including a hybrid model where large wind turbines share space with solar panels.
Transaction with TotalEnergies
Casa dos Ventos closed a joint venture valued at R$ 12.6 billion with TotalEnergies last year.
The transaction does not include the joint development of offshore wind energy projects, which, according to the executive director, does not make economic sense for Brazilian companies at the moment.
Gains and Future Plans
Casa dos Ventos sees significant gains following the transaction, including reduced costs with guarantees and spreads, in addition to accessing TotalEnergies’ client portfolio to seek new energy generation projects.
The company plans to advance into the production of ‘green’ fuels, such as methanol and hydrogen, which require a large amount of clean energy.
Casa dos Ventos reported revenue of R$ 358.1 million in 2022, a growth of 7.6% compared to the previous year.
