Discount on August electricity bill will be around R$ 9.16 for eligible consumers, with resources linked to Itaipu energy.
Residential and rural consumers may receive a discount on the August electricity bill, with an estimated average value of R$ 9.16. According to the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), the credit will be funded with R$ 767.2 million obtained from the commercialization of energy from the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant.
According to calculations presented by the agency, the average reduction of R$ 9.16 considers customers with monthly consumption close to 116 kilowatt-hours. To access the benefit, the consumer must be connected to the National Interconnected System and have recorded consumption of up to 350 kWh in at least one month of 2025.
The discount will be applied directly to the August tariffs, with no need for individual requests mentioned in the disclosed information.

Who will be able to receive the discount on the electricity bill?
The bonus will be aimed at consumers in the residential and rural classes who meet the consumption criteria defined for the measure.
Aneel estimates the average value of the credit based on usage of approximately 116 kWh per month. The amount actually received by the consumer may be related to their consumption profile.
Another requirement is the connection to the National Interconnected System, responsible for connecting a large part of the generation and distribution of electrical energy in the country.
It will also be necessary to have consumed up to 350 kWh in at least one of the months of 2025. Thus, the benefit will reach consumers who fall within the limits established by the agency.
Itaipu resources will finance the bonus
The discount on the electricity bill will initially be made possible by R$ 767.2 million related to the sale of energy produced by the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant.

The use of these values will allow part of the resources to return to consumers in the form of tariff reduction.
For the year, the forecast is that approximately R$ 1.29 billion will be allocated to reducing electricity tariffs. The August credit, therefore, represents one of the measures planned to alleviate part of the cost faced by consumers.
Some regions will have additional reduction
In addition to the average bonus of R$ 9.16, residents of certain areas may benefit from another tariff reduction initiative. The measure will reach consumers in the North and Northeast regions, Mato Grosso, and parts of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.
In this case, R$ 3.1 billion related to the charge for the Use of Public Property, known as UBP, will be used.
This fee is paid to the Union for the use of rivers in hydroelectric power generation. The resources will be directed to reducing the amounts charged in these regions. Thus, some consumers may receive both the benefit linked to Itaipu and the effects of this second tariff measure.
Electricity bill expected to rise above general inflation
The bonus announcement comes in a scenario of expected increase in electricity prices. At the beginning of the month, Aneel raised the forecast for electricity bill inflation from 8% to 8.6% for the year.
The percentage exceeds the expectation presented for the Broad National Consumer Price Index, the IPCA, estimated at around 5%.
This means that, even with the planned credits, the cost of electricity may advance at a faster pace than general inflation. The discount on the electricity bill in August offers a temporary relief but does not eliminate the adjustments and other components that influence the final tariff values.

Credit will be noticed in the August tariff
Consumers meeting the criteria should observe the discount on the bill for August. The application of the benefit is conditioned on the connection to the National Interconnected System and the consumption history recorded in 2025.
With resources from the commercialization of Itaipu energy, the discount on the electricity bill should reduce the charge for customers with an average consumption of 116 kWh per month by approximately R$ 9.16.
Although the value is limited given the forecasted annual increase in rates, the credit represents a direct reduction for eligible residential and rural consumers.
