BYD Started Operations of the “Jinan” Ship, the Eighth Vessel of the Fleet, with Capacity for 9,200 Cars. The Owned Fleet Ensures Fast Transportation to Brazil, Europe, and Asia.
BYD, the Chinese automaker, has initiated the operations of its eighth ship, named “Jinan”, which will transport the brand’s vehicles to different regions of the world.
The vessel increases the company’s own transportation capacity, eliminating the need to depend on third parties and ensuring faster deliveries in strategic markets such as Brazil, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
The Jinan is hybrid, able to operate with fuel oil or natural gas combined with the company’s batteries, offering energy efficiency and operational flexibility.

Its capacity reaches 9,200 cars, surpassing previous ships that carried about 7,000 vehicles.
BYD Fleet and International Expansion
With the addition of the Jinan, BYD’s fleet now includes ships like Shenzhen, Xi’an, and Changsha, consolidating the brand’s presence in global markets.
The complete fleet allows for the transportation of 64,800 vehicles just to strategic regions; including other markets, this number exceeds 1 million units.
This logistical strategy ensures that BYD can keep up with its accelerated international growth, maintaining control over the transportation of its models and strengthening its global competitiveness.
Billion-Dollar Investment and RoRo Technology
BYD’s investment in the eight vessels amounts to R$ 3 billion, and all ships use the RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) system, which allows for the quick loading and unloading of vehicles via ramps, optimizing loading and unloading times.
The first ship of the fleet, Explorer Nº1, was delivered in January 2024 and measures nearly 200 meters in length and 38 meters in width.
The vessel has already operated in Brazil, docking at the Portocel port (ES).
During its second trip, it left Ningbo, China, with stops in Singapore and Port Louis, completing 40 days until reaching the country.
Impact on the Brazilian Market
The presence of these ships in Brazil ensures that BYD can supply its dealerships without relying on third-party carriers.
This results in faster and more reliable deliveries for customers interested in the brand’s models, consolidating the company’s position in the national market.
Additionally, the logistical autonomy reinforces BYD’s ability to meet the growing demand for its vehicles in various regions without significant delays or interruptions.
Strategic Importance of the “Jinan” Ship
The Jinan is not only larger than previous ships but also symbolizes BYD’s strategy to directly control its global logistics.
The combination of high transportation capacity and hybrid system demonstrates the brand’s investment in efficient and sustainable solutions.
With all vessels operating, BYD ensures regular deliveries of its vehicles in strategic markets, guaranteeing agility and reliability, which are crucial factors to support its international expansion.
