BYD’s Sea Lion 06 SUV Is Registered With INPI and Can Achieve Up to 1,700 Km of Combined Range. The Model Comes in Plug-in Hybrid and Electric Versions and Integrates the Ocean Line, Which Includes Dolphin and Seal Vehicles.

The BYD has registered the Sea Lion 06 with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), a medium-large sports utility vehicle that can reach up to 1,700 km of combined range.

The model, already presented in China, has yet to have its launch confirmed in Brazil.

The vehicle will be offered in plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and 100% electric versions, according to data released by the manufacturer.

Model Is Part of the Ocean Line

The Sea Lion 06 is part of the Ocean line, which includes the models Dolphin and Seal.

With 4.81 meters in length and 2.82 meters in wheelbase, the SUV has dimensions similar to competitors such as the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.

The name Sea Lion has been used in other markets to refer to the Song Plus, which is also sold in Brazil.

In certain countries, the model appears as Seal U. In the registration made at INPI, the designation is Sea Lion 06.

Design Follows the Trend of Electric SUVs

The front of the Sea Lion 06 features a split headlight assembly, with LED daytime running lights at the top and main headlights positioned below.

The bumper features side air intakes, and the rear has taillights connected by a darkened strip, as well as a spoiler integrated into the roof.

According to automotive industry analysts, the design follows the pattern adopted by new-generation electric SUVs, featuring cleaner surfaces and horizontal lines to enhance aerodynamics.

Plug-in Hybrid Version Can Achieve up to 1,700 Km

In the PHEV configuration, the Sea Lion 06 combines a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine, with just over 100 hp, with a 95 hp electric motor.

The system delivers a total power of 218 hp.

There are two battery options: one with 26.6 kWh, providing electric range of up to 170 km, and another with 18.3 kWh, capable of traveling about 120 km purely on electricity.

According to BYD, the combined range — summing the use of the combustion engine and battery — can reach 1,700 km per fuel tank, based on measurements taken under the Chinese standard.

Experts claim that this type of configuration is focused on urban use in electric mode, keeping the combustion engine available for longer journeys.

Fully Electric Options With Up to 395 Hp

The 100% electric version of the Sea Lion 06 will be offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The base model uses a motor with 245 hp, while the more powerful version features two motors and achieves 395 hp.

The batteries have a capacity of 68.3 kWh or 78.72 kWh, ensuring range between 520 km and just over 600 km, according to the Chinese measurement cycle (CLTC).

This methodology typically indicates values higher than those measured under other standards, such as WLTP or Inmetro, which could apply if the vehicle is approved in Brazil.

Digital Interior and 15.6” Multimedia Center

The interior of the Sea Lion 06 features a four-spoke steering wheel, similar to those seen in recent electric models, and a 15.6-inch multimedia center.

The system is compatible with remote updates and smartphone integration, according to information from BYD.

Industry sources indicate that the model is expected to follow the technological standard of the brand’s launches, which typically include driving assistants and semi-autonomous features, although these specs have not yet been confirmed for Brazil.

Registration Does Not Guarantee Launch in the Country

The registration with INPI does not mean that the model will be launched in the national market.

Automakers often register projects and trade names to protect design and intellectual property, even if there are no immediate plans for sale.

This practice also allows for future flexibility if the company decides to start marketing in the country.

According to automotive industry consultants, the registration of the Sea Lion 06 indicates only that BYD intends to keep the name protected and preserve exclusivity of use.

Segment of Electrified SUVs Grows in Brazil

The Sea Lion 06 is expected to position itself in the segment of medium-large electrified SUVs, where BYD already operates with models like the Song Plus and the Yuan Plus (Atto 3).

The brand has been expanding its presence in the country with plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles, keeping pace with the growth of this market.

According to data from the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE), Brazil has seen a significant increase in the sales of electrified cars in 2025, which explains manufacturers’ interest in expanding the local portfolio.

Expectations About Prices and Launch

BYD has not yet announced prices, available versions, or arrival date for the Sea Lion 06 in the Brazilian market.

There are also no details about the process of homologation of the vehicle for national standards.

Sources close to the industry believe that if the SUV is launched in the country, it should compete with hybrid and electric models from brands such as GWM, Volvo, and Jeep, all positioned in the same size and performance category.

The presence of the Sea Lion 06 in INPI records reinforces BYD’s interest in expanding its range in Brazil, but the model’s future in the country still depends on the brand’s strategic decision.

If it enters the market, the SUV could intensify competition in the electrified vehicle segment.
