Leopard 5, the new off-road plug-in hybrid SUV unveiled by BYD's Fang Cheng Baoda sub-brand, has 1,2 km of range.
A BYD takes a bold leap with the launch of Leopard 5, a plug-in hybrid SUV aimed at the premium market, boasting impressive 1.200 km of autonomy. This novelty comes from the Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand and signals the brand's intention to expand its reach in the electrified vehicle segment.
An Innovative Sub-Brand: Fang Cheng Bao
BYD is no stranger to innovation. The company, through Fang Cheng Bao, brought the Leopard 5 to the stage, an SUV with a off road footprint, initially priced at 400.000 yuan in China. This debut is just the beginning as the sub-brand plans to expand its lineup with additions such as the Leopard 3 and Leopard 8 vehicles.
Fang Cheng Bao, by the way, is strategically positioned between Denza and YangWang in terms of value, further solidifying its presence in the market.

Robust design and features of Leopard 5
The Leopard 5's sturdiness is evident through its squared-off design. The SUV has dimensions of 4,89 meters long and 2,80 meters between the axles, offering a strong presence that refers to big names like Ford Bronco and Land Rover Defender.
Externally, the Leopard 5 stands out with:
- big headlights
- BFGoodrich 265/55 R18 AT tires
- D-shaped lanterns
- Spare wheel attached to the luggage compartment door
However, it's the interior that really catches the eye. According to the automaker, customers will be rewarded with:
- A large center screen
- a sports steering wheel
- Shift selector that retracts
- space for drinks
- Two wireless charging areas
- Driver-side facial recognition system
And we can't forget the vehicle's off-road capability, which features a Disus-P suspension system, with impressive approach and departure angles.
1,2 km of autonomy
Leopard 5's strength comes from its system DMO, integrating a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors. This translates to a combined power output of 680 hp.
The highlight is the battery, which in purely electric mode allows you to travel up to 125 km, but when combined with the combustion engine, autonomy jumps to a remarkable 1.200 km.
On an intriguing note, according to the CarNewsChina website, the bottom of a concept car unveiled by Fang Cheng Bao had an inscription that translates to “Sail Together”, hinting at the brand's ambitions to explore markets beyond China. However, the possibility of sale in the Brazilian market has not been officially confirmed by the automaker.
When launching the Leopard 5, BYD strengthens its position in the plug-in hybrid SUV market and builds anticipation for future launches.
