New BYD Yuan UP Delivers Up To 176 Horsepower And May Hit The Brazilian Market Soon. The New Electric SUV From BYD Could Compete With Hyundai Creta And Volkswagen T-Cross.

BYD, consolidating its position in the electric car market, is expanding its lineup with a new compact SUV. The model, named BYD Yuan UP, was officially revealed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The released images suggest that the Yuan UP aims to compete with popular cars in Brazil, such as the Volkswagen T-Cross and the Hyundai Creta. This strategy indicates that the introduction of the BYD Yuan UP electric SUV in the Brazilian market is a real and imminent possibility.

The size of the model suggests it will succeed the older BYD Yuan, for example. The design retains some details from the previous model, as well as others that connect it with the larger Yuan Plus. The large LED headlights of the BYD electric SUV in the front reaffirm the similarity, as does the Chinese ideogram instead of the brand logo.

At the front, the bumper has a design reminiscent of BMW. On the sides, you can note the body with straight lines and a relatively high beltline, a trend in SUVs today.

Additionally, the BYD Yuan UP also features flush door handles. At the rear, the bumper follows the design of the front, as do the LED taillights. The BYD electric SUV measures 4.31 meters in length, 1.83 meters in width, 1.67 meters in height, and 2.62 meters in wheelbase.

Thus, the electric SUV delivers 176 horsepower, which is less than the Yuan Plus and Dolphin Plus, for example. In terms of battery, the model likely features a Blade unit, exclusive to BYD. However, there is no data on the battery size.

How Much Will The BYD Yuan UP Cost?

One doesn’t need to be an expert to know that the SUV market is booming everywhere in the world, especially in the compact segment. Furthermore, BYD’s Dolphin and Seagull have been extremely successful.

The brand launched the Seagull in March this year and has already produced over 200,000 units this year. Similarly, BYD has produced over 500,000 Dolphins, both cars sell very well, despite being “non-SUV” electric vehicles.

It seems that the BYD Yuan UP could start at a price of approximately US$ 14,000, which is higher than the around US$ 11,000 for the BYD Seagull but lower than the US$ 16,000 price tag for the Dolphin, R$ 149,900 in direct conversion.

Considering that the public loves SUVs, the BYD electric SUV is poised to capture the electric vehicle market in China and possibly the rest of the world. If the Yuan Up is sold similarly to the Seagull and Dolphin, Tesla’s title as the best-selling electric vehicle manufacturer is genuinely at risk.

BYD Is A Sales Leader In Brazil

November was the best month in history for the sales of electrified cars in Brazil, and the BYD Song Plus took the lead among hybrid models in the country. In total, there were 10,601 registrations of electric and hybrid vehicles, according to data compiled by the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE).

In addition to the best historical result last month, the entity believes December will present even better numbers due to the anticipatory sales movement before the new electric and hybrid vehicle import tax rates take effect starting January 2024.
