The Changsha, one of BYD’s largest ships, brings on board the second stage of a mega operation started in May, which is expected to total more than 11 thousand units in Itajaí. The arrival of the giant ship reinforces the importance of the Santa Catarina terminal in Brazil’s automotive logistics, according to SPI.
A giant ship from BYD docks at a port in Santa Catarina this Tuesday, the 23rd, with 7,216 electric and hybrid cars in the largest automotive operation of the port in 2026, raising the total unloaded in the first half to nearly 15.5 thousand vehicles. This is the second stage of a mega operation that started in May and is expected to total more than 11 thousand brand automobiles unloaded in the municipality. The arrival reinforces the volume of BYD imports along the Santa Catarina coast and the pace of electric car entry into the country.
The largest automotive operation in Itajaí in 2026

According to the Superintendence of the Port of Itajaí (SPI), this will be the largest automotive operation carried out at the terminal in 2026, and the disembarkation of BYD automobiles helps to consolidate Itajaí as one of the main entry points for vehicle movement in Brazil. The arrival of the giant ship is considered a milestone by the port authority.
“Receiving the BYD Changsha with more than 7.2 thousand vehicles is a milestone,” highlighted Superintendent Artur Antunes Pereira.
For Pereira, the operation demonstrates the market’s confidence in the terminal’s structure and efficiency, as well as the work to expand the capacity and competitiveness of the public port. The logistics will be handled by JBS Terminals, responsible for coordinating a quick, safe, and efficient disembarkation of the vehicles.
Almost 15.5 thousand vehicles in the first semester
Before the stop with the giant ship Changsha, the Port of Itajaí had already moved 8,280 vehicles in Ro-Ro operations throughout this year, the system in which automobiles roll on and off the vessel on their own wheels. With the new load, the accumulated volume is expected to reach 15,496 vehicles disembarked in the first semester of 2026.
The number consolidates a semester of strong movement at the terminal, driven by a series of stops made in recent months. The growth places Itajaí among the main vehicle movement ports in the country.
The stops that boosted the result
According to SPI, the result is driven by a series of stops in recent months, in addition to the giant ship Changsha. Among them are the passages of the Victoria Highway, which brought 2,069 vehicles in three different operations, and the two passages of the Dover Highway, responsible for another 1,196 units.
The recent history of movements also includes the Good Wood, with 430 vehicles, and the Grande Shanghai, which recorded the largest disembarkation of the period, with 4,585 automobiles, in the May operation. Together, these stops explain the jump in the terminal’s numbers in the first semester.
