The Chamber of Deputies had a very important vote this Wednesday. The deputies approved a bill that allows mini and micro solar energy generators to donate excess energy credits to essential activities.

Solar Energy Credits

This action will allow hospitals to spend less on electricity, helping to cut costs and increase capacity. However, since it is a donation, the donating party will receive no rewards in exchange for the donation of solar energy credits.

Proposal Approved in the Chamber of Deputies

The proposal approved in the Chamber was presented by deputies Franco Cartafina (PP-MG) and Lucas Redecker (PSDB-RS). Now, energy concessionaires and permit holders will have to provide a clear and visible mechanism for the donation of energy credits.

With the reduction of economic activity resulting from the pandemic, it is reasonable to suppose that many consumers equipped with micro and mini distributed generation systems have accumulated a significant amount of energy credits, resulting from a generation period exceeding consumption”, argued the deputies in the project’s presentation.

How Solar Energy Credit Works

The solar energy credit works when the mini or micro generator puts more energy into the grid than it can use. Thus, the energy can be stored for consumption in the following months.

Now, the credits can be donated by them to hospitals. In this way, maintenance costs will decrease significantly. Due to the increase in the number of hospitalized patients, the amount of energy spent has surged for hospitals. With the advancement of the pandemic, some actions to relieve hospitals physically and financially are being taken.
