Nissan is reconsidering its future plans amid the growing wave of affordable electric cars from China, aiming to launch an economical model in the Brazilian market.

The cheap electric car segment is expanding at surprising speed, exceeding the expectations of several automakers, especially given the proliferation of Chinese vehicles around the globe. Faced with this changing scenario, renowned automakers like Nissan are reevaluating strategies and announcing new plans, as revealed during the Tokyo Motor Show.

Nissan intends to bring cheap electric cars to the market soon

According to Nissan's CEO, Makoto Uchida, highlighting the issue in the Japan Mobility Show, the low-cost electric car market is moving faster than the brand's expectations. The executive highlighted that China's low-cost electric cars are forcing Western companies to review their plans. Uchida states that Nissan thought the process was step by step, but it accelerated much faster. The Chinese accelerated this in the market and went further.

Taking this into account, the Japanese automaker is reviewing development plans to ensure its electric cars are more affordable and don't take long to reach the market. The company executive also states that Nissan's priority became discussions about prices and analysis of affordable prices for all markets in which it operates.

Although he did not give any deadline for reducing the price of his electric cars, the executive highlighted that quality and cost-benefit continue to be important points that will not be abandoned in the new cheap electric car.

Nissan plans to bring cheap electric car to Brazil

In the end, the Japanese brand's executive states that China gave a warning to automakers, causing Nissan to reconsider the way it produces its cheap electric cars to keep pace and bring new technologies and models to the market more quickly.

Therefore, the fact is that Nissan still has a lot of work to do. The Japanese automaker was ahead with the Nissan Leaf, a veteran of modern electric cars and a sales success, however the brand was losing its pace. The most recent model, Ariya, is still in its infancy in sales and has not even reached several markets.

Presented in Brazil just over a year ago, the Nissan Ariya remains unknown for the national market. During the Tokyo Motor Show, the automaker's executives stated their intention to launch a cheap electric car in the country, but there is still no official date. Revealed globally in 2020, Ariya emerged with global aspirations and is already included in the registry of the National Institute of Industrial Property, in a registration that occurred recently.

Marking a new phase in the electrification of the Japanese automaker's models, the Nissan Ariya is 4.645 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2.776 mm, which guarantees great internal space.

The interior, in fact, is modern and has clean lines, also highlighted by the dashboard equipped with two large screens: entertainment system and instrument panel, both measuring 12,3 inches. There are few buttons, the functions are mostly configured on the screen and by voice, and seats with zero gravity technology.

Based on the CMF-EV architecture, the same as its cousin Renault Megane E-Tech, the Nissan Ariya has two propulsion options: the first has a 160 kW (217 horsepower) electric motor and 30,5 kgfm of torque on the front axle, while the second has two electric units for a total of 290 kW (394 horsepower ) and 61,2 kgfm and e-4FORCE all-wheel drive.
