Steel Production Giant in Brazil Is Optimistic About the National Scenario and Will Invest Millions to Reactivate Its Steel Production Unit in Paraná City
Gerdau stands out in the national market as the largest steel producer. The company has decided to reactivate steel production in Araucária-PR, a unit that had been operating with reduced activities since 2015. The company promises to invest R$ 55 million and generate many direct and indirect job openings.
The company announced on Thursday that due to the current scenario in Brazil, it has decided to reactivate its steel production in the Araucária unit. As previously mentioned, the steel production had been halted due to the crisis that began in 2014, which caused the demand for steel to drop nationwide. Consequently, the giant opted to maintain only one unit for doubling steel.
Gerdau’s investments in the Araucária unit will be substantial, with a steel plant expected to resume operations by the second half of the year. The trend is that about 300 new job openings will be created. The unit has the capacity to produce approximately 420,000 tons of steel annually. However, the restart will be gradual, producing around 35,000 tons.

Gerdau’s Vice President Is Excited About the National Scenario
In a statement released on Thursday (22), Marcos Faraco, Gerdau’s Vice President, emphasized that Gerdau is optimistic about the national scenario. “We are optimistic about the good prospects presented for the domestic market. With the resumption of production, the company aims to continue meeting the increased demand for long steel in Brazil, as well as optimizing product supply to customers across the country in conjunction with existing capacities,” he said on the company’s website.

Gerdau is a company that employs thousands of families, being essential for the growth of the sector in the country. With the company’s investment in Araucária, competing firms may feel compelled to heavily reinvest in this area, thus aiding in the generation of job openings.
