China steps up military action in the Taiwan Strait with 90 ships and air maneuvers, increasing global tension. Taiwan responds by activating its high alert and mobilizing military forces. This confrontation threatens the stability of the Indo-Pacific and puts the world on alert for possible large-scale economic and political developments.

The Taiwan Strait is once again the epicenter of geopolitical tensions in Asia, with China mobilizing a vast military operation.

The current scenario reflects a clear strategy of intimidation, while Taiwan maintains its firm position in defense of its sovereignty.

The unfolding of these military actions calls into question the stability of the Indo-Pacific, while global allies watch closely.

But what is behind these movements? What is the impact on regional and global politics? Understand the complexity of the conflict involving two of the largest Asian powers.

A military exercise that tests limits

Since Monday (9), China has begun large-scale military maneuvers dubbed Joint Sword-2024B. These actions include warships, aircraft and missile units, in a show of force that surrounds Taiwan on multiple fronts.

About 90 Chinese vessels, including Navy and Coast Guard vessels, are operating in areas near the Taiwan Strait, south of Japan and in the South China Sea., according to security sources.

Taiwanese officials say these are the largest military operations China has carried out in the region this year, surpassing previous exercises in April and May.

According to the Chinese government, the maneuvers are a direct response to the visit of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te to the Pacific, with stops in the United States, which Beijing classified as a “separatist provocation”.

The strategic role of reserved air zones

Beijing has announced the creation of seven reserved airspace zones over areas close to Fujian and Zhejiang provinces.

These zones, valid until September 11, were delimited for specific military actions. Although they are formally regulated under international law, the strategic use of these areas raises concerns among analysts.

These zones limit commercial air traffic and simulate an air blockade around Taiwan. For Taipei, this represents an attempt to economically suffocate the island.

On the other hand, Beijing argues that the exercises test the combat readiness of its armed forces.

Taiwan reacts with high alert

Given the scale and complexity of the maneuvers Chinese, Taiwan has put its military on high alert, mobilizing Navy vessels and aircraft to monitor Chinese movements.

Taiwanese authorities have said they are prepared to respond to any escalation that threatens their sovereignty.

Furthermore, the island's political leadership, represented by President Lai, reaffirmed that only the people of Taiwan can decide their future.

According to Lai, independence is an issue that transcends Beijing's threats, and Taiwan will continue to fight to maintain its democracy.

The United States and the Strategic Dilemma

The United States, the main ally of Taiwan, maintain their policy of “strategic ambiguity” regarding the defense of the island.

Although Washington does not officially recognize Taiwan's independence, it provides significant military and political support.

The cautious US response contrasts with rhetoric from Beijing, which accuses the country of fomenting Taiwanese separatism.

For many analysts, US involvement in the Taiwan Strait is essential to maintaining the balance of power in the Indo-Pacific.

However, Washington's lack of an immediate response to the Chinese military maneuvers raises questions about America's willingness to act in a scenario of direct escalation.

Regional and global impacts

The crisis surrounding Taiwan does not only affect the parties directly involved. Countries such as Japan and the Philippines, which have territorial disputes and depend on regional stability, have expressed concern about China's escalating military activities.

The United Nations (UN) has also highlighted the risks of an escalation in the Indo-Pacific. According to experts, the Taiwan Strait is one of the most important shipping routes in the world, responsible for about 40% of global trade.

The economic impact is already visible: Volatility in Asian markets has risen sharply as Taiwan's exports face delays due to restrictions imposed by reserved airspace zones.

The use of “grey zone” tactics

In recent years, China has adopted “grey zone” tactics to pressure Taiwan. These actions include frequent air incursions into Taiwanese airspace, aggressive maritime patrols and disinformation campaigns.

According to Taiwan's Defense Ministry, these tactics are aimed at wearing down local defense forces without crossing the line into direct armed conflict. The recent military maneuvers are seen as an intensification of this strategy.

what is at stake?

At the heart of the dispute is the issue of Taiwan's sovereignty. For Beijing, the island is part of Chinese territory and should be reunified, preferably peacefully, but without ruling out the use of force. For Taipei, Taiwan is a sovereign nation, and any decision about its future should be made by its inhabitants.

The issue is further complicated by the role of the United States. As the world’s largest economy and China’s strategic rival, the United States has a direct interest in preventing Beijing from expanding its influence in the Indo-Pacific.

But what would be the cost of a direct military confrontation? Experts assess that a conflict in the Taiwan Strait could have devastating consequences for the global economy and regional security.

The Taiwan Strait remains one of the most volatile points in global geopolitics. As China and Taiwan continue to clash, the international community struggles to mediate a dialogue that seems increasingly distant.

Will it be possible to find a peaceful solution to this historic dispute, or are we on the brink of a major conflict?

It is worrying how greed dominates man, being a mortal with a determined time, he thinks he is immortal, wanting everything for himself and forgets to take good care of what was entrusted to him, which is his nation, unaware that in the end he only needs seven feet and sometimes with great difficulty he can achieve it. I think so, if China is doing well, let Taiwan grow and live well, just like any other country, one in accordance with the other for the common good for all. It is like Russia, because it did this with Ukraine. Because the arrogance of greed deceives them, that it is powerful, perhaps it even forgets that it is mortal. And in this world, not a single man is powerful, all are mortal. Note that those who thought so in the past no longer exist, but they are all blinded by material power that they could not see this. Only when the bomb explodes, then they will realize their stupidity, but then it is too late. But the greatest suffering is of the nation.
May God protect us from selfishness and hatred.

The so-called American dream, of capitalist life, which meddles in everything and enforces its will, undermines governments through espionage, if it is not in favor of its interests, the economic embargo will appear, in the case of Russia and Ukraine it goes down the same path, they were fine until Zelensky listened to join NATO (UN) which is all the US's backyard, analysis and you will see, but you are right in saying fights for false powers, will never be immortal, that, only with Christ.

Of course, the Americans go into all wars. They kill millions and pose as the Paladin of Justice. They killed almost 4 million Vietnamese, and in Iraq they killed many more, claiming that the crazy Saddam had an atomic bomb. I will never forget when they attacked Baghdad, guaranteeing that those bombs would only hit military targets. It was a massacre. The Brazilian press said nothing because they eat the rest of the Americans. The war in Afghanistan was over quickly after years of fighting and suffering by the Afghan people. They left these people at the mercy of the crazy people of the Islamic State Al Qaeda, etc. And much more. They suffocate and blackmail several nations and pose as the good guys. The only thing I like about the Americans is their cars.

Search on Google how many Chinese people Mao Tsetung killed in China implementing the “wonderful” communism or when he sent troops to defend North Korea, it will make those numbers of yours look like child's play.

We do not defend the Chinese government, but look at how many Chinese were killed directly or indirectly by the “democratic forces” throughout the 19th and 20th centuries and if you include what Japan did to China then… in 40 years they went from the countryside to being an economic super-protector, ending hunger and feeding, educating and maintaining 2 billion inhabitants… think about which country did this in such a short time.

And what we see in the media, who can guarantee that this is true? **** lets whatever he wants appear! I have many doubts that 40% of what is reported in the media is true, I don't understand why there is so much war! Countries should help each other for the good of the people! Russia is crowing but it will take 20 years to recover!

No country, just that place that enslaved millions of people under its rule and made them survive to make its economy what it is. In addition to not allowing any freedom, they also enslaved millions of people who ate rats to survive and provide wealth for the Kumuna leaders and others who subject themselves to this shame. Easy, all you need to do here in Brazil is enslave you and your fellow countrymen in the same way and in a few years we could be just like this place that in no way resembles a country, let alone a nation or homeland. How about you and your fellow countrymen being the slaves? In a few years we will be the power you speak of.

The US has about 750 military bases spread around the world in approximately 80 countries.
Source: David Vine, Professor of Political Anthropology at American University, Washington DC-USA. There is no study that disputes this information.
Other countries with military bases outside their territories are:
The UK has 145.
Russia has between 12 and 36.
China has 1 in Africa.

14 years in the hands of this **** leftist, illiterate (Lula and Dilma) with a complex of suffocated aristocrats was not enough to change one bit in Brazil's relationship with the financial elites. On the contrary, the PT gang and its associates have also become elite (in politics and the judiciary) and are sucking heavily on the State's teat. Man, R$16 billion for the artistic elite in this bad government must mean something, right? Put the elite in it!! Millions of dollars in travel and lodging for the “Jaula” couple around the world, same. Frustrated aristocrats.

I agree, Antonio, but in the case of Ukraine x Russia, Russia found itself in danger because Ukraine joined NATO, even so, without this having happened, the Russian went there and bombed Ukraine... Countries must have legality and legitimacy in the actions they wish to take without the interference of another country, with sovereignty in their choices and decisions... I think Taiwan does not want to fight with anyone, it only wants independence like Ukraine, China already dominates the world commercially... why is that!??? Countries that have an interest in the other for whatever reason have to enter into an agreement of common interests to both, it's simple, but the greed and arrogance of the rulers do not allow them to see solutions where the population does not pay the price...

The position of critics of China and Russia is laughable, spare us with such a lack of political knowledge and insensitivity.
