Impressive Advance Promises to Revolutionize Solar Energy and Reduce Installation Costs with New Solar Panel
Did you know that we are about to witness a new generation of photovoltaic modules with efficiencies far above those we currently use on our roofs? Well, today I am bringing you the news about the Topcom solar panel, a surprising technology that promises to boost the generation of photovoltaic solar energy, bringing a gain of over 10% in efficiency.
The solar panels we currently use are composed of interconnected solar cells that produce electrical energy from sunlight. However, only about 23% of the captured energy is converted into electricity, which is relatively low. Nevertheless, solar energy has been becoming increasingly accessible, thanks to the ability to combine several photovoltaic modules to generate energy abundantly and cheaply.
Extremely Thin Solar Panel
The big news is now the application of a new material in the manufacture of solar cells, known as perovskite. This material has a high potential to convert sunlight into electricity and is abundant in nature. The result? An extremely thin, transparent solar panel with lower costs and efficiency well above the standard.

The era of solar panels attached to roofs is beginning to change with transparent glass that generates energy while keeping the view unobstructed, and perovskite photovoltaic windows already tested in offices in Japan promise to transform entire facades into invisible power plants without blocking light or altering the appearance of buildings.

The era of silicon alone in solar energy comes to an end with the arrival of perovskite, a material that captures a broader light spectrum, is applied as a thin film, and, together with silicon, reaches a theoretical limit of 45% efficiency in tandem modules.

We Don’t Have Perovskite Solar Panels in the Brazilian Market
But why don’t we have perovskite solar panels in the Brazilian market yet? The big challenge is the lifespan of these cells, which tend to degrade rapidly when exposed to the environment. However, Jin Solar recently announced a tandem perovskite cell based on Type N Topcom, which achieved an impressive efficiency of 33.24%, breaking world records for the power of photovoltaic cells.
How Does It Work?
The Type N Topcom solar panels have a relatively simple topology, where silicon and perovskite cells are stacked in the same solar panel. This combination allows for more complete use of sunlight, harnessing a range of different wavelengths. The top part of the panel absorbs sunlight at high energy levels, while infrared light at lower energy is absorbed by the silicon cell at the back. This technique results in a powerful efficiency of 33.24%.
Advantages
Fewer photovoltaic modules are needed to produce the same amount of energy, resulting in savings in time and money during installation. They produce more energy per square meter, ideal for roofs or areas with space limitations.
Fewer modules mean fewer components, less labor time, and a reduction in overall installation costs. Better temperature coefficient and performance in low light, common in Brazil. The efficiency of Topcom modules remains longer, ensuring greater energy generation and savings.
The Best of Silicon and Perovskite Solar Cell Technologies
By combining the best of silicon solar cell and perovskite technologies, Topcom solar panels achieve a record efficiency of 33.24%. This maximizes energy generation, making the investment more profitable in the short and long term, as well as saving physical space during installation and reducing costs.
