New Citroën SUV Enters Automotive Market to Undercut Fiat Fastback Sales. Meet the Citroën Basalt, SUV Delivering 130 Hp and Up to 13.6 Km/L Fuel Efficiency.
Launched in October 2024, the Citroën Basalt sold six thousand units by the end of November, directly impacting Fiat Fastback sales. Of this total, about 1,300 have already been registered. According to reports, due to the high demand for the new Citroën SUV, the Porto Real (RJ) factory will not halt production during the holiday festivities.

Now, those interested in purchasing the SUV with the Turbo 200 engine will have to choose between the Feel or Shine variants. According to market sources, customers have chosen the Turbo 200 versions, while the Feel 1.0 Firefly option has not yet attracted consumer attention.

After many sightings, the new Citroën SUV has been fully unveiled, and the design remains the same as the concept presented a few months ago. Unlike the C3 Aircross, the new coupe SUV comes with a version featuring a 1.0 naturally aspirated engine.
The rival of the Fiat Fastback is being sold in three variants: one with a 1.0 naturally aspirated engine and manual transmission, and the others with a 1.0 turbo engine and CVT, the setup known as T200.
In terms of dimensions, the model is 4,343 mm long; however, it favors the rear overhang to create harmony with the coupe roofline, featuring a wheelbase of 2,645 mm. Thus, the Citroën Basalt arrives with a 490-liter trunk.
New SUV Surpasses Fiat Fastback with 14.5 Km/L Fuel Efficiency
The Citroën SUV in the Basalt Feel 1.0 variant comes with a naturally aspirated Firefly 1.0 engine, a familiar name from Stellantis. With three cylinders and 6 valves in a single overhead cam configuration, it produces 71 hp and 10 kgfm with gasoline and 75 hp and 10.5 kgfm with ethanol.
In a 1,120 kg car, this rival of the Fiat Fastback has a consumption certified by Inmetro of 13 km/l in the city and 14.6 km/l on the highway with gasoline, and 9.3 and 10.2 km/l, respectively, with ethanol.
For the Basalt Feel Turbo and Shine Turbo, as the name suggests, the 1.0 turbo was chosen. Connected to the CVT transmission with a simulated 7-speed setup, it delivers 125 hp with gasoline and 130 hp with ethanol, with a torque of 20.4 kgfm for both fuel types.
The consumption is 11.9 km/l in the city and 13.7 km/l on the highway with gasoline, and ranges from 8.3 to 9.6 km/l, respectively, with ethanol.
How Much Does the New Citroën SUV Cost?
To compete with the Fiat Fastback, the new Citroën Basalt comes equipped with features such as electric steering with adjustable height column, a multimedia system with a 10” screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wireless, a 7” instrument panel, 4 airbags, rearview camera, LED daytime running lights, air conditioning, adjustable driver’s seat height, power windows, key fob, power mirrors, among others, CVT automatic transmission, optional two-tone paint, premium upholstery for the seats and steering wheel, among others.
It is worth mentioning that the features of this Fiat Fastback rival will vary according to the versions, which are priced at:
- Feel 1.0 Firefly MT – R$ 89,990;
- Feel Turbo 200 CVT – R$ 96,990;
- Shine Turbo 200 CVT – R$ 104,990.
