Cemig SIM Certified Its First Clients for Renewable Energy Consumption and Generation with Its New Certificate Cemig SIM REC in the Municipality of Belo Horizonte (MG)
The term ESG is increasingly present in the daily lives of companies across all productive sectors. Investments in renewable energy and strategies linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are highlighted in companies’ strategic plans, with decarbonization being one of the pillars of this new market positioning. To demonstrate its clients’ leadership in sustainable practices, Cemig SIM – a company of the Cemig Group operating in the subscription solar energy market – is launching the Cemig SIM Renewable Energy Certificate or Cemig SIM REC: the title that confirms the environmental credentials of companies and institutions through the traceability of the origin of completely clean energy.
The new Cemig SIM REC can be requested digitally for free, which facilitates access for all SIM clients. The certification is audited and secure, in addition to endorsing the actions of companies from various sectors in deploying environmentally correct practices related to the production and consumption of renewable energy in the SIM solar parks installed in 14 municipalities in Minas Gerais.
The President of SIM, Danilo Gusmão, emphasizes: “This certificate represents the value of all certified organizations, especially those committed to the ESG agenda, as traceability allows for zero CO2 emissions related to energy consumption.” The solar energy from SIM has prevented more than 25,000 tons of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the atmosphere since it began operations in 2019.

The Importance of the Cemig SIM REC for the Renewable Energy Market
The Cemig SIM Renewable Energy Certificate or Cemig SIM REC was created so that SIM clients can demonstrate to target audiences and other project stakeholders how the brand is positioned regarding the implementation of environmentally friendly practices.
With the SIM REC, companies in the SIM base generating renewable energy for at least 12 months will be included in the list of large companies recognized globally for sustainable initiatives. Through the traceability of the produced energy, the client receives a document certifying the origin of this energy from renewable sources.
The certification standard follows the premise of the Brazilian Greenhouse Gas Protocol (PBGHG) created in 2008, which defines a calculation tool to estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
