The Chinese Automaker BYD, Famous for Its Innovations in the Electric Car Sector, Presented a Significant Update to Its Entry-Level SUV, the Yuan Pro.
The model, which is a “carbon copy” of Ford EcoSport, brings updates both in design and mechanics, abandoning combustion options to offer only electric powertrain.
The crossover was originally launched in 2015 as “BYD S” in China. It received a facelift in 2017 and changed its name to “S2”. The most recent update in 2021 transformed the car into a fully electric vehicle, adopting the name Yuan Pro.
Size, Find Out What Is Under the Hood and Inside the New BYD
Compared to the Ford EcoSport, the BYD Yuan Pro presents slightly larger dimensions. The Chinese model measures 4.37 meters in length, being 11 cm longer than the EcoSport.

It surpassed the T-Cross, the Tera, and the BYD Song: with nearly 4,000 units sold, the Hyundai Creta is the best-selling SUV in the first half of April.
In terms of wheelbase, both cars are the same, measuring 2.53 meters. Regarding height, the Yuan Pro is 7 cm lower and weighs about 200 kg more, justified by the electric battery pack.
The electric powertrain delivers 95 horsepower and 18.3 kgfm of torque, paired with an automatic transmission. According to the WLTP cycle, the Yuan Pro can travel up to 405 km on a single charge. At a fast charging station, it goes from 10 to 80% battery in 30 minutes.
The interior of the Yuan Pro differs significantly from the EcoSport. It offers hard plastic and leather finishes, as well as an extensive list of features. Highlights include an eight-inch digital display, panoramic sunroof, and wireless phone charging.
Technology and Safety
In terms of safety, the Yuan Pro offers six airbags, collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, and traction control. Unfortunately, features like adaptive cruise control (ACC) and lane keep assist are not available.
The starting price in China is 39,000 yuan, around R$ 27,000 in direct conversion, excluding taxes. A potential arrival in Brazil with prices around R$ 100,000 could shake up the competition, especially considering the high prices of SUVs currently available in the domestic market.
The BYD Yuan Pro could be a milestone in the history of electric SUVs in Brazil. With its competitive price, generous equipment list, and considerable range, this “clone” of the EcoSport is set to make a splash in Brazilian lands.
