Armored Rides Service Grows in São Paulo, Reaches Over 300 Thousand Users in 2025, But Prices Are Still Alarming
In the last two years, a new app-based transportation model has gained traction in São Paulo. It is the armored car service, which has ceased to be exclusive to entrepreneurs and authorities to cater to an increasingly broader audience.
The numbers show the extent of the growth: from 8 thousand users in 2023, the platform jumped to over 300 thousand in 2025.
Safety As A Priority
The expansion of the service primarily occurs in the upscale neighborhoods of the capital. Jardins, Higienópolis, and Vila Nova Conceição account for a significant portion of the demand.

Brazil will deactivate more than 35 oil platforms by 2030 in a market estimated at R$ 306 billion, but it has no qualified shipyard, no approved law, and no defined tax regime to do the work domestically.

Instead of demolishing old coal warehouses, London doubled their roofs until they met in the center and created one of the most curious renovations in King’s Cross.

Fungi transform engineered wood that is impossible to recycle into low-carbon insulation panels, reduce construction waste, save energy, and create a sustainable alternative for walls, floors, and roofs.

Bottle caps and pine sawdust replace discarded wood in concrete molds, reduce waste, reuse household residues, and create sustainable solutions in Brazilian construction projects.
Even so, the prices charged still represent a barrier for many interested parties.
A ride from Brooklin to Avenida Paulista, for example, costs around R$ 120. This amount more than doubles compared to the R$ 50 charged by traditional apps.
When the destination is Tatuapé, the fare can reach R$ 400, which means three times more than common transportation.
The Voice Of Armored Drivers
Driver Jânison Ribeiro has been working in the armored fleet for a year and a half. He claims that the search for safety is always the main argument of passengers.
“We hear a lot, right? The customer gets into the car commenting. Depending on the neighborhood or the time, if they feel any insecurity, they prefer to use the armored service. They often say that the service has arrived at the right time because something different was missing compared to other apps,” he said.
Passenger Experience
Among the frequent users is content creator Renata Porto. She learned about the platform online and, after experiencing an attempted robbery in 2024, will not forgo the protection.
“I have already had a scare in traffic. Thank God nothing happened, but I don’t want to relive that. I feel unsafe in São Paulo, especially when I return alone from a restaurant or bar. Today, I only use armored services because, as a woman, it weighs even more,” she reported.
Incident-Free Operation In The Armored Car App
Since its official launch in October 2023, the company has not recorded any cases of attacks against the vehicles.
According to Rhino, responsible for the service, the profile of the audience varies, but executives and clients who travel at night represent the majority of the rides.
The company’s CEO, Daniil Sergunin, states that the armor provides not only protection but also convenience.
“All ill-intentioned people can identify from afar when a car is armored. They don’t waste time with this type of vehicle. Some clients get in, open their computers, and participate in a meeting inside the car, knowing that nothing will happen,” he emphasized.
Prices And Reality Of The Streets
Despite the expansion, the numbers from the Public Security Secretariat show a decrease in robbery records in the areas served.
In Jardins, the reduction reached 35% compared to 2024. In Higienópolis, the drop was 36%. In Vila Nova Conceição, the decrease was 0.8%.
These indices help to explain why some residents continue to choose armored cars. After all, the perception of risk remains high, even with the statistical improvement.
Therefore, while the high price restricts access, the sense of security drives demand. The trend, at least for now, is that the service will continue to grow in São Paulo.
