The city of Crato, in the Cariri Region, will be home to a new factory of the footwear producer Grendene, which owns the brands Grendha, Melissa, Ipanema, and Rider. The venture in Ceará promises to generate one thousand new job opportunities. The announcement of the venture was made this Friday (21).

According to the owner of the brands Grendha, Melissa, Ipanema, and Rider, the new factory will have a total area of 10,800 m², with the capacity to expand EVA components and produce 500,000 pairs of shoes monthly.
With the opening of the new factory in Ceará, about 1,000 new jobs will be created, according to the company. In addition, there is a chance that the recruitment of new employees will start as early as 2022.

In the company’s official statement to shareholders, Grendene highlighted that the Government of Ceará approved the extension and increase of tax incentives for the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) for establishments located in Sobral, Fortaleza, and Crato until 2032.
New Grendene Factory Will Produce Over 500,000 Footwear Per Year
Three cities in Ceará already have factories owned by Grendene, which owns the brands Grendha, Melissa, Ipanema, and Rider. The first industrial unit of the brand in Ceará was built in the 1990s in Fortaleza, in the Barra do Ceará neighborhood. The unit has the capacity to produce 5 million pairs of footwear per year.
In 1993, Grendene built a new production center in the Expectativa neighborhood of Sobral, expanding its operations in the state of Ceará.
Crato, which will host the second unit of Grendene’s factory in 2022, has already had a factory of the company since 1997, currently producing about 12 million pairs of EVA products annually.
