In an interview for G1, the president of the Pilots Association of São Paulo, Fabio Mello Fontes, described the process by which the immense ship is able to maneuver. According to the specialist, during the turning movement, the propellers rotate 90º towards the side that needs to push the water, resulting in the front and rear parts of the ship moving in opposite directions.
The MSC Grandiosa is a vessel of colossal dimensions. Employed for cruises by MSC, the ship measures 331.43 meters in length and 43 meters in width.
Giant Ship Performs Impressive Maneuver
The visual recording, captured about 7 kilometers away from the ship position, displayed the colossal vessel executing an extraordinary maneuver to leave the area.
The MSC Grandiosa indeed turned completely around itself, without help from external equipment or tugboats. The execution of this movement was made possible thanks to the use of two azipod motors, a propeller system capable of rotating 360º.
A video recorded by a drone revealed a special moment of the largest cruise ship ever seen in Brazil, the MSC Grandiosa, during its passage through the Port of Santos.
The footage, which spread across social media and already counts hundreds of thousands of views, was made by Rômulo Roberto Venâncio, a professional experienced in filming with drones, with three years of experience in the field.
The video went viral, demonstrating public interest in impressive captures made by drones, as well as the magnitude of the MSC Grandiosa during its passage through Brazil.
