With electric car production taking place locally in Camaçari, BYD hopes to offer more competitive prices for Brazilian car enthusiasts. This represents a milestone for the modern dream: owning an electric car.
BYD’s three new facilities in Camaçari will serve distinct roles. One will be dedicated to producing chassis for electric buses and trucks. The second factory will focus on the production of electric and hybrid cars, initially with the capacity to produce 150,000 units per year, but with potential to reach 300,000. The last factory will be aimed at processing lithium and phosphate iron, meeting external market demand, leveraging the existing port infrastructure in the region.
BYD and the Electromobility Transformation in Brazil
“This is a crucial moment for BYD in the Americas,” stated Stella Li, CEO of BYD Americas. “The new electric car factories in Brazil, specifically in Camaçari, will enable the acceleration of electromobility in the country, a key movement to combat climate change and improve the quality of life for people.”
With operations set to begin in the second half of 2024, BYD’s three factories in Camaçari are expected to generate over 5,000 jobs. “We are committed to making a significant social impact. We plan to hire local labor starting this year, offering proper training and knowledge transfer,” says Tyler Li, president of BYD Brazil.
BYD’s new complex in Camaçari will be an attraction center for suppliers from various industries, both for technical parts and services. The company aims to contribute to regional development, prioritizing local suppliers. In carrying out civil works, BYD will also prioritize hiring companies established in the region.
