The Discovery Of The New Oil Field In The Gulf Of Suez Offers A Glimpse Of Hope For Egypt, Which Seeks To Not Only Overcome Its Energy Crisis, But Also Consolidate Its Position As An Important Supplier Of Energy Resources.
In an effort to combat the energy crisis plaguing the country, Egypt’s military regime revealed promising news: the discovery of an unexplored oil field in the Gulf of Suez. This discovery is seen as a critical step to increase reserves and partially alleviate the pressure of domestic and export demands for energy resources.
Discovery Of Oil Field In Egypt Offers Relief During Energy Crisis
According to the Ministry of Petroleum, Cheiron played a key role in identifying the new oil field in the Geisum and Tawila West concession area, located in the Suez region.
Through the successful drilling of the fourth energy reserves well in the area, the company was able to confirm the presence of the GNN field.

It is estimated that this field has the capacity to produce about 23,000 barrels of oil per day, representing a substantial increase compared to the previous 4,000 barrels prior to its development.
The operational agreement between Cheiron and Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (Kufpec) establishes a 60% and 40% split, respectively, in field operations.
Cheiron expressed optimism regarding the discovery, stating that it reinforces the exploration potential in the northern part of the concession.
It highlights that, even considering the Gulf of Suez as a mature hydrocarbon province, there are still considerable deposits to be explored.
Investments In Exploration Seek To Meet Domestic And Export Demands
Egypt’s priority is to increase its energy resource production, especially natural gas, in order to meet the growing domestic and European demands.
Despite record temperatures, the country faced blackouts during this summer to conserve its reserves.
In 2022, Egypt’s natural gas exports reached US$8.4 million, representing an impressive increase of 171% compared to the previous year.
It is worth mentioning that, last December, another significant discovery was made along the northeastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
This new field features substantial reserves of up to 3.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, providing an additional source of energy resources for Egypt at a crucial time.
With these recent advancements and the discovery of the new oil field, Egypt is taking solid steps to overcome the energy crisis and ensure a more stable future regarding energy supply.
