Harley-Davidson created an entry-level motorcycle that seems impossible for those who only know the brand’s big bikes: the X440 uses a 440 cc single-cylinder engine, delivers 27 hp, 38 Nm, a declared fuel consumption of 35 km/l, and showcases a small, rational, and much more accessible Harley in India.

In the first half of 2023, the Toyota Corolla still dominated the medium sedan segment in Brazil, boasting an impressive market share of 80.95%, with 19,852 units sold.
However, the winds changed rapidly, and in the same period of 2024, the Corolla’s share dropped to 65.75%, with 16,502 units sold. This decline, significant for a model that has always been seen as invincible, indicates that something big is happening in the automotive market.
According to data, this market loss is not due to consumers migrating to other segments, such as SUVs or pickups, but rather to sedans from other brands.
The medium sedan market as a whole has grown in Brazil: in 2023, 24,525 units were sold, while in 2024 this number rose to 25,097. This means that, while the segment has grown, the Corolla has lost ground.
The Culprit Is a Chinese, the BYD
One of the main reasons for this change is the advancement of Chinese models, such as the BYD Seal. With a total of 2,193 units sold in the first half of 2024, the fully electric sedan now ranks third in the medium sedan category in Brazil, with an 8.74% market share.
And the threat doesn’t stop there. Another Chinese model, the King, also from BYD, promises to further shake the Corolla’s dominance. Although it has not yet achieved significant sales figures, the forecast is that the King, a plug-in hybrid, will gain strength in the coming months, which could worsen the situation for the Japanese sedan.
Toyota, known for its conservative approach, will need to innovate if it wants to keep the Corolla relevant in the market.
The Chinese have arrived with force, offering models that can be charged at home, allowing for great electric range without fuel consumption. This innovation has proven to be extremely appealing to an audience increasingly concerned with sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
According to industry experts, it is likely that the 13th generation of the Corolla, expected in 2026, will bring plug-in hybrid versions, something that Brazilian consumers are already anticipating.
Capacity to Reinvent Itself
Toyota has already demonstrated its ability to adapt in the past, when it launched the world’s first flex hybrid car. Now, the question is whether the Japanese automaker will be able to innovate enough once again to maintain its leadership.
We cannot forget that Toyota already has plug-in hybrid technology, as seen in the new RAV4, sold in Brazil. The big question is whether this technology will be integrated into the Corolla sedan or the Corolla Cross, another successful model from the brand. This choice could define the future of the Corolla in Brazil and worldwide, in an increasingly competitive market dominated by innovation.
Will Toyota be able to reinvent the Corolla to face the Chinese competition and maintain its status as a leader? Or are we about to witness the decline of one of the most iconic cars in the world? With the rapid advancement of electric and hybrid technologies, only time will tell if the Corolla will survive this latest challenge.
