A New Nuclear Power Plant Must Be Created Soon in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is happening because the country is about to launch a tender aimed at the construction of a new nuclear power plant, which focuses on doubling the number of nuclear reactors in the small Gulf state.
According to the website “O Antagonista,” sources claim that the goal is to open the tenders later this year, possibly in the coming months. According to the site, the project’s intent is to address the growing energy needs of the country by 2032.
In this sense, it is noted that the country’s authorities have already expressed that they are ready to review and issue the necessary licenses and regulations for the construction of the new facilities.
Who Can Compete in the Tender
The information is that there will be a total of four new plants, with the tenders for these units open to companies from countries such as the United States, China, and Russia, a decision that may cause geopolitical tensions, especially due to the current relations between the US, China, and Russia.

Today, the United Arab Emirates have a cooperation agreement. That’s why a potential victory for Russian or Chinese companies could lead to political tension. Furthermore, the project deepens the complex dynamics between Gulf states and major global powers, especially due to the current context of growing energy and environmental concerns.
Currently, due to the demand for energy and the need for sustainable sources, the United Arab Emirates have shown a willingness to adopt nuclear energy for civilian use. In this sense, it remains to be seen whether this nuclear expansion will influence both the country’s energy infrastructure and its geopolitical positioning in the near future.
United Arab Emirates Already Have a Nuclear Power Plant
In 2021, the first nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates was inaugurated. Named Barakah, the unit was the first in the Arab world and represented a milestone for the country’s energy.
This facility, when fully operational with its four reactors, will be able to provide about a quarter of the electricity needed for the country. According to reports, this total capacity is expected to be achieved later this year with the activation of the last reactor of the plant.
