China Unveils Innovative 15 MW Wind Turbine Blade: One of the Largest Equipment in the World with Impressive Diameter of 262 Meters.
SANY Renewable Energy, a Chinese company specializing in wind turbine production, recently announced the production of a new onshore wind turbine blade called SY1310A, considered one of the largest in the world. With an impressive length of 130 meters, this component was completed in January of this year, marking a new milestone in the wind power industry.
New Wind Turbine Blade Features a Diameter of 262 Meters
The revelation of this innovation for the wind power segment occurred during the China Wind Power 2023 exhibition held in Beijing, China, where SANY’s wind equipment was displayed to the public for the first time.
Produced by the company, the piece rolled off the production line on January 21. These giants of wind power have a diameter that spans 262 meters, roughly equivalent to three football fields combined.

In addition to its impressive size, the new wind turbine blade is said to be more robust and lighter than others in its category, capable of withstanding even extreme weather conditions, according to SANY.
To ensure the durability and performance of the new wind energy turbine, the company used state-of-the-art technology and high-performance design in every aspect of the new wind turbine blade. The airfoil, the cross-section of the blade, was specially designed to optimize aerodynamic efficiency. The manufacturing processes include the use of robotics for precise fiberglass cutting, as well as a unique technique for producing large composite blades.
New Wind Blade Generates 15 MW
This innovative wind energy blade will initially be installed in a 15 MW power unit of the company itself. According to Wood Mackenzie, wind turbine orders in the Chinese market remained consistent with last year’s figures, totaling 44 GW in the first half of last year.
It is notable that onshore wind projects represented 40.1 GW, marking an 8% growth compared to the previous year. Demand was particularly strong in northern China, where large wind farms accounted for more than half of new onshore wind energy orders.
Regional energy companies have been active in developing these wind farm projects, and companies with high energy consumption are increasingly adopting wind energy solutions to power their operations sustainably.
SANY’s market share has been steadily increasing over the years, positioning the company among the top ten globally and the top five in China in terms of wind turbine manufacturing.
China Connects the World’s Largest Wind Turbine
The company China Three Gorges Energy announced in July of last year the connection of the world’s first wind turbine with a capacity of 16 MW.
The height of the tower for this offshore installation reaches 152 meters, which is nearly the height of a conventional 50-story residential building. The new wind turbine blade will be capable of withstanding wind gusts of nearly 290 km/h and providing clean energy for up to 36,000 homes in China.
Each installed blade measures 123 meters in length, and the total weight of the blades is 54 tons, while the weight of the machine room with the generator at the top of the tower is 385 tons. In one revolution, the blades of this equipment trace a circle in the air with an area of approximately 50,000 m².
