In a movement that promises to revolutionize urban mobility in Mogi das Cruzes, the Department of Highways of São Paulo (DER-SP) officially presented the project for the construction of a new bridge on Estrada da Volta Fria.
The structure, which will connect Via Perimetral to Guilherme George Avenue in Jundiapeba, is valued at an impressive R$ 27 million and brings modern solutions for local traffic.
This novelty, awaited for years by residents, comes along with improvements that go beyond the bridge construction.

The world’s largest project in 2026 is not a dam, a bridge, or a tunnel — it’s 6,400 workers in the Texas desert building the planet’s first artificial intelligence factory for $500 billion.
The project includes a double lane, concrete structure, and the installation of a roundabout that will facilitate access to the neighboring city of Suzano via Estrada Furuyama. But how will this transformation impact the lives of citizens, and will the deadlines be met?
What DER-SP Says About the Work
The superintendent of DER-SP, Sérgio Codelo, was in Mogi das Cruzes on Thursday (16) to detail the project.
During the meeting with local leaders, he emphasized that the bridge is essential to align the conditions of Estrada da Volta Fria with the region’s growing demands.
Currently, the existing structure is a constant target of complaints due to its precarious state.
According to the executive, the funds are already allocated, and the forecast is that the bidding process will be opened by the first half of 2025.
The works are expected to start within the same year, with a completion deadline set for the end of 2026.
Partnership Between State and Municipality
The construction of the bridge will only be possible thanks to a partnership between the state government and the City Hall of Mogi das Cruzes.
The deputy mayor Téo Cusatis, who represented the municipal executive at the meeting, highlighted the role of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas in making the project possible.
“We want to thank Governor Tarcísio de Freitas for his support.
Now, it is our mission to facilitate the partnership and approve the project with the city councilors in the Municipal Chamber so that we can sign the agreement and start the works still this year,” Cusatis stated.
The expectation is that the bureaucratic procedures will be completed by March 2025.
This will allow DER-SP to advance with the bidding process and, consequently, with the execution stages of the work.
Meeting with Local Leaders
In addition to presenting the project for the new bridge, Sérgio Codelo also met with other representatives from Mogi das Cruzes, such as the municipal secretary of Works, Nilmar Ferreira; the Secretary of Urban Mobility, Ary Kamiyama; and the Chief of Staff, Neusa Marialva.
Other participants included the chief of staff for the deputy mayor, Eli Nepomuceno, and the deputy secretary of Works, Leila Alcântara.
During the meeting, logistical challenges and proposed solutions to avoid delays were discussed.
The interconnection with Estrada Furuyama was pointed out as one of the most relevant aspects of the project due to its capacity to efficiently integrate Mogi das Cruzes and Suzano.
Benefits for the Population
With the bridge and roundabout in operation, the Jundiapeba region is expected to experience a significant improvement in vehicle flow.
In addition to reducing traffic jams, the project promises to increase safety for drivers and pedestrians.
It is estimated that travel time between Mogi das Cruzes and Suzano will be reduced by up to 20%, in addition to facilitating the movement of products and goods between the municipalities.
Next Steps
The conclusion of the agreement between DER-SP and the City Hall is the main focus at this time.
Once established, the bidding process will be launched, and construction will begin as soon as the winning company is defined. Meanwhile, the municipal administration continues to mobilize efforts to meet the deadlines.
With a significant investment and promises of real transformations for the region, the new bridge on Estrada da Volta Fria represents more than just an infrastructure project: it is an opportunity for development and quality of life for citizens.
