Last week, the state of Paraná received about R$ 3 billion in investments. The division was made as follows: R$ 2.6 billion from Klabin, which will be allocated to the installation of a cardboard paper machine in the Puma II project; R$ 292 million from BRF, to modernize and expand its units in the state, and lastly, Gerdau, with an investment of R$ 55 million to reactivate its steel production unit. A new biodiesel plant from Oleoplan may be installed in Pará, with investments of R$ 148 million and the possibility of generating over 50 job openings

Investments from Klabin, BRF, and Gerdau in Paraná
Klabin Will Invest R$ 2.6 Billion in the Puma II Project, in Ortigueira, Paraná
Klabin, the leading company in the paper and pulp segment, announced that it will invest over R$ 2.6 billion in the Puma II Project, located in the municipality of Ortigueira, in the Campos Gerias region, state of Paraná. Klabin’s largest investment is the Puma II Project, which will eventually include two paper machines, the 1st machine (with a capacity of 450 thousand tons/year) is expected to be delivered this year. The 2nd paper machine (with a capacity of 470 thousand tons/year) is expected to be delivered in 2023.
With this additional investment that Klabin announced in Paraná, the project totals nearly R$ 12.9 billion, making it the largest investment in Klabin’s history. The kraftliner machine to be installed in the Puma II Project is expected to commence operations in the second half of July this year, and the MP28 (the second machine) is forecasted to start operating in the second quarter of 2023, focusing on catering to the cardboard paper market.

BRF Will Invest Nearly R$ 300 Million to Modernize and Expand Its Units
BRF, owner of the brands Sadia, Perdigão, Qualy, and others, announced that it will allocate R$ 292 million in Paraná, which is expected to generate numerous job opportunities. The investments announced by the company will be aimed at expanding and modernizing its units. Another significant update from BRF will be the resumption of turkey production in the city of Francisco Beltrão, after the plant received authorization to export to Mexico.
Lorival Luz, CEO of BRF, states that the company has a strong presence in the state of Paraná, where it generates about 18,500 jobs directly and works with over 2,000 producers through integration. Lorival also emphasizes that BRF intends to provide more jobs in Paraná, continually advancing in the company’s growth agenda through 2030.
Gerdau Will Invest R$ 55 Million to Resume Steel Production in Araucária
Gerdau recently announced that it will reactivate steel production in Araucária, in the state of Paraná. The Gerdau unit, which has been operating at reduced capacity since 2015, will receive investments of R$ 55 million and is expected to generate a significant number of direct and indirect job opportunities.
The investments from Gerdau in the Araucária unit in Paraná are substantial, with a steel mill expected to be operational by the second semester. The trend is that around 300 new job vacancies will be created. The Gerdau unit in the state of Paraná has the capacity to produce approximately 420 thousand tons of steel annually.
