What began as a search for the history of Pablo Escobar and his alleged smuggling plane turned into a journey worthy of an adventure movie. Mike Corey, explorer and creator of the Fearless & Far YouTube channel, decided to tackle the dense Mexican jungle in search of a mysterious plane that, according to rumors, belonged to the cartel of the famous Colombian drug lord.

The expedition began in the Yucatán Peninsula, a region famous for its dense forests, treacherous mangroves, and a biodiversity that includes venomous snakes and other natural hazards.

History Of The Plane

In 1966, a cargo plane crashed near the city of Celestún, carrying a shipment whose nature was never confirmed. The mystery only deepened when the wreckage was discovered 13 years later, with no signs of the cargo or the crew.

Over the years, stories have emerged linking the plane to Escobar, but no definitive proof has been found. Determined to unravel this enigma, Mike’s team set out to explore the site.

Shortly after the first hours of hiking, danger revealed itself. In a stretch covered with bushes, Mike encountered a snake, a scenario that set the tone for the journey. “It’s terrifying… a real web of thorns and hooks,” he reported in the video. Despite this, the team pushed on.

After three days facing steep and damp terrain, they finally reached the wreckage. The plane was partially buried in the mangroves, its body corroded by time and nature. “This is it! We found it!,” Mike exclaimed. The discovery brought forth details that further fueled the mystery.

The interior of the aircraft was almost empty, but the pilot’s seat, the steering wheel, and some windows remained intact.

One detail caught attention: bullet holes covered the top of the plane, as if an aerial chase had occurred before the crash.

Near one of the wings, rusty barrels were found. Mike and his team speculated that they may have carried drugs, but there was no concrete evidence at the site.

“What happened here is a mystery,” Mike commented. “Perhaps they were shot down. Maybe something in the engine failed. What seems certain is that, if they survived, they couldn’t get out of the jungle.”

Pablo Escobar, the name that fuels legends about the plane, died in 1993 at the age of 44 during a confrontation with Colombian police. Despite this, his story still inspires investigations, theories, and adventures like Mike Corey’s.

The journey didn’t provide definitive answers but reinforced the enigma surrounding the lost plane in the Mexican jungle. For Mike, the greatest mystery remains: what really happened to that aircraft and its crew? The plot continues without a final point.
