Brazil, The Energy Giant, Leads in Crude Oil Exports in 2024: Trade Balance Soars and The Country Reaches New Levels
Brazilian crude oil exports are experiencing a strong rise, which has boosted the trade balance and strengthened the country’s economy. According to recent information from the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP), Brazil has seen a remarkable increase in the export of this resource, generating significant impacts on national foreign trade.
In the first seven months of 2024, Brazil exported a total of 403 million barrels of crude oil, representing a significant increase of 26% compared to the 319 million barrels exported in the same period in 2023. This substantial growth reflects the increasing global demand for oil, as well as Brazil’s capacity to expand its production to meet these needs.

Expansion in exports boosts Brazilian trade balance with record revenue in 2024
This significant expansion in exports has had a direct and positive impact on the Brazilian trade balance, generating impressive revenue of US$ 27.8 billion between January and July 2024. This amount greatly exceeds the US$ 22.2 billion collected in the same period the previous year, highlighting the crucial role of the energy sector in Brazil’s foreign trade, according to data provided by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (MDIC).

Projections for a Promising Future in The Oil Sector in Brazil
According to projections from the IBP, oil production in Brazil is expected to continue growing, reaching around 4.5 million barrels per day by the end of the decade. This increase in production, combined with rising international demand, suggests that exports will continue to rise, potentially reaching 2.5 million barrels per day. Considering the current 1.9 million barrels exported daily so far in 2024, this forecast underscores Brazil’s increasingly strategic position in the global oil market.
Brazilian Oil Challenges Soy and May Surpass US$ 50 Billion in Exports
The current scenario, characterized by falling international soybean prices and sustained oil exports at high levels, positions oil as the main product of Brazil’s export agenda. If the current trend persists, oil exports could surpass the mark of US$ 50 billion (Equivalent to over R$ 300 billion at the current exchange rate) in 2024, reinforcing the importance of this resource to Brazil’s economy and its growing influence in the international market.
With this performance, oil consolidates its prominent position in Brazilian exports, surpassing other products and establishing itself as a fundamental pillar of the country’s trade balance. The continuous growth of crude oil production and exports not only strengthens the Brazilian economy but also positions Brazil as a key player in the global energy landscape in the coming years.
