There was a 7,2% increase in movements in the first half of 2020 in the Port of Rio de Janeiro. Numbers above expectations, despite the economic recession

3,747 million tons, this was the mark reached by the Port of Rio de Janeiro, according to the Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ) in a report released to the press this Monday (20). A mark of 250 thousand tons was registered, an increase of 7,2% in relation to the first half of 2019. It is worth mentioning that the Port is completing 110 years of existence today.

Movements of pig iron and wheat contributed to this brand in Porto

According to the report, pig iron obtained an export volume of around 867 thousand tons, representing a growth of 54,5% in the first half of 2019.

Wheat also had great prominence in these numbers, since the Wheat Terminal of Rio de Janeiro (TTRJ), incorporated in the Port, started operating this year and handled around 204 thousand tons of the grain.

CEO of CDRJ, Francisco Antonio de Magalhães Laranjeira, emphasizes that, “even with the economic impacts generated by the pandemic, the Port of Rio de Janeiro managed to present a positive result in the 1st half of 2020”. And the prospects are good, according to him: “In the cargo handling projection for the 2nd half of 2020, we expect to maintain the good performance observed in the first half of the year”.

The coronavirus restricted, but did not interrupt, operations at the Port of Rio de Janeiro

The Port Management Superintendencies of the Ports, the Environment and the Port Guard joined efforts at the beginning of the restrictions caused by the coronavirus. In addition to the CDRJ and the leasing companies, the Labor Management Body (OGMO) took the same care with the temporary port workers (TPAs) assigned to the complex.
