According to the Vice President of Research and Development at Nissan, electric car batteries could reach 400 kW, a huge technological advantage
Since the beginning of 2022, Nissan has plans for the production of solid-state electric car batteries in 2028, with experimental production in 2025 and production completion by 2026. In a recent interview, the Vice President of Research and Development at Nissan highlighted the importance of the technological advantages and strategies outlined by the brand. The new electric car batteries will have a charging capacity three times faster, reaching up to 400 kW.
Nissan’s electric car batteries are 100% solid, completely removing liquid elements, a technology different from those used in electric cars. According to the company, the liquids present in electric car batteries could negatively impact the transfer of energy and power of the electric car.
In addition to all this technology, Nissan is also developing energy density production and minimizing production costs compared to lithium-ion batteries, which are predominantly used by current electric car manufacturers. This technology is being developed in conjunction with engineers from Japan and scientists from the University of Oxford.

Influence on Current Batteries?
As the production of lithium batteries is only anticipated for 2028, solid battery technology for electric cars might have a minor impact on the production model with the new batteries. Current rumors suggest that Nissan may discontinue its Titan pickup and that the brand will create an electric truck for the U.S.
Nissan has not confirmed which will be the first electric car model from the brand that will use the new batteries, but stated that it will not be any of its current models.
According to the brand’s executive, the new solid battery technology for electric cars will require a 100% new architecture and will be capable of offering two different battery sizes, independent of temperature variations.
