Why is this important? According to data from MEC, teacher training is a crucial factor in improving the quality of education in Brazil’s public schools.
With PROFARTES, the goal is to raise the level of teaching in arts classes by forming qualified and committed educators.
Program Structure
The PROFARTES consists of a total workload of 420 hours, spread over 24 months.
Of the total hours, 360 are in-person and 60 are held remotely, allowing for flexibility that adapts to teachers’ routines.
This innovative format is designed to ensure that educators not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also develop practical skills that can be applied in the classroom.
A Program for Everyone
Registrations are open to arts teachers who are already working in basic education and have a degree recognized by MEC.
One of the program’s differentiators is its reach: 296 spots are available at various higher education institutions (IES) across the country, including state and federal universities.
Among the institutions offering PROFARTES are:
- Santa Catarina State University (UDESC): 12 spots
- São Paulo State University (UNESP): 22 spots
- Federal University of Bahia (UFBA): 20 spots
- University of Brasília (UNB): 32 spots
- Federal University of Ceará (UFC): 14 spots
- Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS): 19 spots

Inclusion and Diversity
MEC has been committed to facilitating access for underrepresented groups in education.
The participating institutions are implementing quota policies, ensuring that more teachers have the chance to qualify and transform arts education in their communities.
MEC Selection Process
To register for PROFARTES, candidates must go through a selection process divided into two phases.
In the first phase, it is necessary to present a Descriptive Memorial and a Research Project, which will be evaluated by an examination committee.
In the second phase, candidates will participate in an Oral Defense Exam, where they must orally defend their project, demonstrating mastery of the content and alignment with the objectives of the course.
