MEC Sisu 2026 Opens 73,630 In-Person Slots in Teacher Training Programs and Connects the Selection to the Savings for Teacher Training Program, with Financial Support for Those Pursuing a Career in Education
MEC offers thousands of slots in teacher training programs! The Sisu 2026 arrives with the largest edition in history in terms of participating institutions and places teacher training at the center of the competition for slots.
In total, there are 73,630 slots in in-person teacher training courses linked to the Savings for Teacher Training Program, an initiative by MEC that offers a monthly scholarship of R$ 1,050 for students performing well on the Enem.
The proposal aims to facilitate entry, retention, and completion of the degree amid declining interest in the career and the risk of a shortage of teachers in the coming years.

The highlight of Sisu 2026 is the combination of expanding slots with a direct incentive for those opting for a teacher training program.
The Savings for Teacher Training Program is part of the More Teachers for Brazil policy and seeks to make the path to a diploma more viable.
In practice, the selection functions as an entry point for continuous financial support throughout the course, focusing on in-person training.
How the Savings for Teacher Training Program Offered by MEC Works
Those selected receive R$ 1,050 per month, with two defined installments: R$ 700 available for withdrawal and R$ 350 allocated to an educational savings account.
This accumulated amount can be withdrawn later, provided the graduate from the teacher training program takes a position as a teacher in a public education network within 5 years after graduation.
The rule reinforces the link between the scholarship and working in public education, encouraging the appreciation of the teaching profession.
What Are the Rules, Deadlines, and Conditions
To join the Savings for Teacher Training Program in 2026, it is necessary to meet objective requirements related to performance in the Enem and approval in Sisu 2026.
Participation requires a simple average score equal to or greater than 650 points on the Enem, approval in an in-person teacher training course, and a specific application to the program after enrollment at the institution.
Registration for Sisu is free and takes place from January 19 to 23, exclusively through the Single Access Portal for Higher Education, maintained by MEC.
Where the Slots Are and Which Courses Offer More Opportunities Provided by MEC
The Sisu 2026 offers over 274,000 slots in 136 public higher education institutions, including federal universities, state universities, and federal institutes.
Among the teacher training courses, those with the most slots include Pedagogy, Biological Sciences, Mathematics, History and Geography.
In the distribution by state, the leaders are Bahia 7,469 slots, Paraíba 6,900, Rio de Janeiro 6,236, and Minas Gerais 5,545. Highlighted as well are São Paulo 3,771, Ceará 4,214, Pernambuco 4,290, and Rio Grande do Norte 3,683.
The offer spans all regions and increases access to teacher training in different realities across the country.
What Changes in Sisu 2026 and How This Affects the Candidate
An important change in 2026 is that MEC will consider the scores from the last three editions of the Enem, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
The average score that results in the best performance for the candidate counts, provided they did not participate as a practice candidate.
This provision is included in Notice No. 22/2025 and expands opportunities for entry into higher education for those with more than one edition of the exam on record.
What May Happen from Now On
The context of teacher training remains challenging. The Pisa indicates that only 3% of 15-year-old students express a desire to become teachers.
Dropout rates also weigh heavily. Data from Inep show an accumulated rate of 53% in pedagogy and the possibility of reaching 73% in teacher training fields like physics.
Nonetheless, signs of change are already emerging. In 2025, the number of students enrolled in in-person teacher training courses with scores equal to or greater than 650 on the Enem increased by 60% compared to the previous year.
The incentive also impacts the daily lives of students. “With financial support, I can acquire the necessary materials for college, help with household expenses, and save for the future,” says Luiz Fernando Barbosa, a chemistry student and program scholarship recipient.
The Sisu also offers a tool for checking available slots, with filters by institution, city, schedule, academic degree, and competition mode. During registration, it is also possible to track partial cut-off scores, aiding decision-making.
The Sisu 2026 increases the number of opportunities and connects teacher training to financial support that can make remaining in school until graduation easier.
With 73,630 slots linked to the Savings for Teacher Training Program and a scholarship of R$ 1,050, the pathway to training new teachers receives a practical and direct boost for those wishing to enter public education.
