The 2024 Stock Car season marked the farewell of the Chevrolet Cruze on the racetracks. Chevrolet announced the end of commercial production of the model in Brazil, consolidating the replacement of the Cruze by the Tracker in competitions, with the necessary adaptations for the new scenario. The departure of Chevrolet’s popular car signifies a new era for the brand in the country, which is now focusing its efforts on the growing SUV market.

Chevrolet Car Leaves Brazil And Signals The End Of Sedans On The Racetracks

The end of Chevrolet’s popular car in the Brazilian automotive market in 2024 coincided with the end of sedans on the tracks.

This year’s season saw the model win its seventh title, achieved by driver Gabriel Casa Grande of the AMattheis Vogel team. In total, they won three of the seven championships featuring the Chevrolet Cruze over the eight seasons it competed.

Daniel Sera won three more, while Ricardo Maurício secured another trophy for Chevrolet’s popular car. With that, only the Opala has more titles in the competition: 15. Chevrolet, the largest supporter of the category, has brought home 35 titles since its inception in 1979. Next year, the Chevrolet car leaves Brazil and makes way for the SUV Tracker.

According to Paula Saiani, Product Marketing Director at GM South America, the public’s preference is currently for SUVs, which have evolved significantly in design, comfort, and vehicle dynamics. Currently, about 40% of passenger car sales are concentrated in this type of vehicle, a percentage twice as high as five years ago.

A Bit Of The History Of The Chevrolet Cruze In The Automotive Market

With the separation of Chevrolet and its European divisions, the brand began looking for inspiration from other brands within the General Motors group, such as the Korean Daewoo, which was responsible for creating Chevrolet’s popular car, the Cruze. Its first generation arrived here in 2011 and came equipped with a 1.8 Ecotec engine, multimedia center, and 6 airbags as standard, which were distinctions at the time of launch.

The second generation of Chevrolet’s popular car was launched in 2017 and innovated by introducing a high-efficiency turbo engine, along with advanced autonomous driving assistance features.

The Chevrolet car leaves Brazil as a pioneer by bringing advanced connectivity with native internet, a difference that reflected technological trends in the automotive sector. There were nearly 300,000 units of the Chevrolet Cruze registered in the Brazilian automotive market.

The Chevrolet car leaves Brazil for the arrival of the Tracker, which will be updated next year. The 2025 line of the compact SUV will receive some tweaks to the engine to comply with the eighth phase of Proconve, and will become more powerful with increased torque to boost competitiveness in the automotive market.

The Chevrolet Tracker 2025 will feature direct fuel injection for both engine configurations, moving away from the multi-point system and fuel preheating. This technology will enable the model to achieve greater power and torque.

Starting next year, the Chevrolet Substitute Cruze will feature a 1.0 turbo flex engine yielding 117 horsepower with gasoline and 121 hp with ethanol, and 18.3 kgfm with gasoline and 18.9 kgfm with ethanol. It will serve the AT, LT, and LTZ configurations. Meanwhile, the RS and Premier versions will have the 1.2 turbo flex delivering 139 hp with gasoline and 141 hp with ethanol, and 22.4 kgfm with gasoline and 22.9 kgfm with ethanol.
