A New Milestone: Maximum Production Capacity in the Campos Basin

Equinor, an energy sector giant, celebrates its exceptional performance in the Campos Basin with a daily production of 110,000 barrels of oil. Peregrino, the company’s main field outside Norway, has reached its maximum processing capacity of the FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading Unit), thanks to advanced investments in technology and infrastructure.

The Peregrino field, operated in partnership with Sinochem, is a crucial asset for Equinor in Brazil and has contributed significantly to the company’s production since its inception in 2011. To date, Peregrino has delivered over 220 million barrels, all extracted with maximum safety.

Setting New Milestones in Oil Production

“This milestone is a testament to the ongoing effort and dedication of our team”, said Veronica Coelho, President of Equinor in Brazil. “Peregrino tells the story of Equinor in Brazil and its success is a significant achievement for us, both locally and in our global performance. This milestone also reflects our commitment to operate safely, creating local value and significantly reducing emissions in our operations.”

The increase in production was achieved after an extensive maintenance and improvement program on the FPSO, including the installation of a new platform, Peregrino C. With the completion of Phase 2 of the field in October 2022, the asset’s lifespan is expected to extend until 2040, adding between 250 to 300 million barrels of oil to the field.

Increasing Oil Recovery with Technology

Strategic initiatives, such as the Increased Oil Recovery (IOR) plan, have been crucial in achieving the production of 110,000 barrels per day. Equinor constantly evaluates opportunities to optimize and increase production in the Peregrino field.

Raul Portella, Vice President of Operations at Equinor in Brazil, emphasized the importance of safety and sustainability in their operations. “Reaching the mark of 110,000 barrels, after investing in technology and continuously improving the asset, is undoubtedly operating efficiently, safely, and more sustainably,” he stated.

Carbon Reduction Target on Track

With the implementation of the natural gas import project at the Peregrino field in September 2022, Equinor has been able to avoid 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year. This represents a reduction of about 50% in emissions per barrel of oil produced, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.
